The new route will operate 3x weekly on Saturdays, Sundays, and Wednesdays between Vancouver and Austin and Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays, between Austin and Vancouver beginning on May 11, 2025.

The 1,871 mile flight is blocked at 4 hours and 17 minutes eastbound and 4 hours and 38 minutes westbound. The plane will overnight in Austin and the Vancouver to Austin segment has some particularly brutal timing.

WestJet will be competing with Air Canada on the route with both carriers operating less than daily service. WestJet and Air Canada will both deploy Boeing 737s on the route.

Daniel Fajardo, WestJet Vice-President of Network and Schedule Planning, had this to say about the new route:

“As we continue to strengthen our service across Western Canada, we are proud to add new WestJet service between Vancouver and Austin as part of our expanded summer schedule. This service will provide a valuable connection between the Greater Vancouver Area and Southern U.S., offering guests a convenient and affordable way to explore Austin’s thriving music scene and renowned culinary culture, while also providing U.S.-based guests access to one of Canada’s most iconic metropolises.”

This route is the latest in additions and cuts at the Central Texas airport, coming days after Hawaiian announced it is eliminating its flights between Austin and Honolulu while Delta continues to build up its presence. It’s worth noting that Delta and WestJet have a partnership that allows for reciprocal perks, though the flight times don’t allow for many connecting opportunities. Flights are currently on sale via the WestJet website.

Summary

WestJet is adding a new route between Vancouver and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Flights are scheduled to begin in May and will operate 3x weekly, competing with Air Canada. It is interesting to see WestJet go up against Air Canada on this route but, fares to Canada are typically pricey so the competition should help.
