Southwest Airlines is launching seven new routes from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), Nashville International Airport (BNA), and Sacramento International Airport (SMF).
The new routes, as first reported by IshrionA on Twitter/X, are all scheduled to start in March of 2025. Southwest will serve the following new routes as part of the expansion:
- Austin (AUS) to Milwaukee (MKE)
- Austin (AUS) to Reno (RNO)
- Nashville (BNA) to Indianapolis (IND)
- Nashville (BNA) to Los Cabos (SJD)
- Nashville (BNA) to Punta Cana (PUJ)
- Sacramento (SMF) to Puerto Vallarta (PVR)
- Sacramento (SMF) to Tucson (TUS)
The flights are currently available for booking on Southwest.com but haven’t made their way over to Google Flights just yet (Southwest began showing flights on the platform back in May). It’s worth noting that some of the flights operate less than daily, for instance the flight between Austin and Milwaukee only operates Monday through Friday.
While it’s always exciting to see new routes added, especially from my home airport of Austin, I’m a bit surprised at the timing of some of these. The winter is typically peak tourism season to places like Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, and Punta Cana so I’m curious as to why the airline decided to launch the routes after the peak season
Summary
Southwest has added seven new routes from its focus cities in Austin (AUS) and Nashville (BNA) along with new service from Sacramento (SMF). All seven routes are scheduled to begin in March 2025 and are currently available for booking via Southwest.com.
