Four short days after we returned from Baton Rouge, it was time for us to embark on another trip. This one was a little unique in the sense that it doesn’t involve airport lounges, flights, or anything related to aviation at all. Instead, for this trip, we’re road tripping up to Possum Kingdom Lake with our boat for the annual Texas MasterCraft boat owners reunion.
For those who aren’t familiar with Possum Kingdom, it is a lake on the Brazos River about an hour and a half west of Dallas/Ft. Worth, near the town of Mineral Wells. It hs become very popular in the last few years as DFW continues to grow and people flock to the clear, deep water of the lake.
Booking Lodging
Mrs. ATX Jetsetter and I decided to make the trip fairly last minute, about three weeks before the event. One of the best and worst things about Possum Kingdom is how remote it is. There isn’t a chain hotel within thirty miles of the lake so we started our search with AirBNB and VRBO.
Vacation rentals were either too large for our needs or wanted an absurd price per night. I did some additional searching in the area and came across the Motorboat Inn, a newly refurbished motel that was close to the boat ramps and the marina. While it looked like a stand alone hotel based on the website, the booking engine was run through a company called Smart Vacation Rentals.
We ended up paying around $800 for our three night stay which, while expensive, was a bargain compared to some of the other lodging available.
