Step aside DFW and Love Field, there’s a new commercial airport coming to the Dallas Ft. Worth Metroplex.
McKinney National Airport Gets Its First Commercial Airline
Earlier this year I wrote about a new commercial airport that is coming to the Dallas area. McKinney National Airport (TKI) is currently constructing a new, 46,000 square foot commercial terminal that will initially house four gates. The terminal area can be expanded to accommodate six gates if needed.

It was reported earlier this year that ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) Avelo Airlines was in talks with the airport to provide service and now there is an update. According to the The Dallas Morning News, the Houston based ULCC has signed a five year use and lease agreement with the airport.
Avelo is expected to launch flights shortly after the commercial terminal is completed. Initial plans call for up to three daily flights on Boeing 737 aircraft. The airline plans to announce its routes and launch date a few months before the terminal opens.

The launch of service will make McKinney the third airport in the DFW area with commercial service, joining Dallas Love Field (DAL) which is the home base for Southwest, and Dallas Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW) which is the home base and largest hub for American Airlines.
Summary
Avelo Airlines has signed a five year use and lease agreement with McKinney National Airport (TKI). This will make Avelo the first commercial operator at the new airport with flights expected to launch shortly after the new commercial terminal opens in late 2026.
