Weekly Recap: March 1, 2025

Greetings from Frisco, TX! Mrs. ATX and I are back in the DFW Metroplex for a second week in a row to watch the LSU Tigers take on Nebraska, Kansas State, and Sam Houston State in the Frisco College Baseball Classic.

While the Tigers has a great weekend on the mound, it was another rough week in aviation with incidents affecting Delta and Southwest but, thankfully, everyone walked away safely. With that being said, lets dive into the weekly recap for March 1, 2025.

Spirit Airlines Exits Bankruptcy, Goes Private

Spirit Airlines kicked off the news cycle this week by announcing that the airline had reached an agreement with the bankruptcy court that would allow them to exit Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.

The Florida based ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) has been plagued with issues in recent years and has decided to go it alone, rejecting multiple merger offers from fellow ULCC Frontier Airlines. While the bankruptcy judge may see an independent path forward for the carrier, I don’t. I can’t imagine Spirit existing in its current form at the end of 2025.

Southwest Flight Narrowly Avoids Private Jet While Landing at Chicago Midway

A week after a Delta Connection CRJ-900 crashed while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport, we had another shocking aviation incident, this time in Chicago. A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800 was attempting to land at Chicago Midway International Airport when a FlexJet Bombardier Challenger 350 entered the runway in the path of the aircraft.

Fortunately, thanks to a heads up move by the Southwest pilots, the aircraft performed a go-around after the runway incursion and landed safely a few minutes later.

Delta Air Lines is preparing to launch international service from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). This announcement is the latest expansion from the Atlanta based carrier as they continue to build up their presence in the Texas capital.

Beginning this coming winter, Delta will launch flights between Austin and Cancun International Airport with daily service using Airbus A320 aircraft.

Review: Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800 Economy (AUS-MSY)

In February I finally flew my first flight of 2025. It was a quick hop from Austin over to New Orleans with Southwest. Overall, the flight was fine but I’m not going out of my way to fly Southwest anytime soon. Once they roll out assigned seating I’d be more inclined to fly with them again.

Review: WATERMARK Baton Rouge, Autograph Collection

During my visit to Baton Rouge, I had the chance to stay at the fabulous WATERMARK Baton Rouge. This property has been on my radar for quite a while and the experience exceeded my expectations. I visit Baton Rouge quite often and this may be my new favorite property in town.

WATERMARK Baton Rouge is my new favorite property in the city.

Summary

After almost two months at home, I was beyond excited to get out and travel again. Things on the news front also made for a busy week and thank you all for checking in as part of the March 1, 2025 weekly recap!
