Greetings from Baton Rouge! I’m wrapping up a wild week of travel by spending some time with the LSU Alumni Association at their annual Chapter Summit. With all of the travel, I was a little light on the posting this week but it was a very busy week in aviation news.
Unfortunately, the top story is the first hull loss and fatal accident for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. We also saw Silver Airways cease operations this week and passengers can expect disruptions flying through Reagan National Airport today due to the military parade in Washington D.C. That and more in the June 7, 2025 weekly recap.
Air India Boeing 787 Crashes in Ahmedabad
An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed on departure from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD) in Ahmedabad. The flight was bound for London’s Gatwick Airport when it crashed into a medical school building shortly after takeoff. At the time of this publication, the death toll has risen to 270, 241 onboard and a further 29 on the ground. There was one survivor of the crash, a passenger seated in seat 11A.

Silver Airways Ceases Operations
Silver Airways ceased operations earlier this week after the company sold its assets to another airline holding company. The new company elected to not continue Silver’s flight operations in Florida, the Bahamas and the Caribbean. The airline has advised affected customers that it will issue refunds through credit card companies or travel agencies.

NASCAR Charter Flight Loses Engine Departing Charlotte
A charter flight carrying NASCAR drivers and team members was forced to abort takeoff earlier this week after experiencing engine issues. The 39 year old Boeing 737-200 was operating between Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT) and Mexico City in advance of this weekend’s races at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

Reagan National Airport Will Suspend Operations During Washington D.C. Parade
A parade celebrating the 250th birthday of the United States Army will occur on Saturday, June 14 from 6:30-9:30p. Given the logistics of this event, expect airline operations to be significantly disrupted on Saturday evening. Some reports are showing that flights could be held at their origin for up to three hours while operations at Reagan National are suspended. Airlines have issued travel waivers for affected passengers.

Summary
It was another busy week in the travel and aviation space with the news cycle dominated by the crash of an Air India Boeing 787. As always, thanks for reading the June 14, 2025 weekly recap.
