Greetings from Dallas! Sending the recap out a little late this week as we were attending a friend’s wedding over the weekend. I also managed to do some flying for the first time in 2025 and will have some new reviews coming out soon. Enjoy the February 23, 2025 weekly recap below.
Delta Connection Flight Crashes in Toronto
Weeks after an American Airlines regional jet collided with a Blackhawk helicopter in Washington D.C., a Delta Connection CRJ-900 crashed while landing at Toronto Pearson Airport (YYZ). Fortunately, there was no loss of life associated with this incident though some passengers were hospitalized. Delta has offered each passenger $30,000 with no strings attached.
Southwest Airlines Lays Off Staff
Layoffs rocked Southwest Airlines this week as the Dallas based carrier eliminated more than 1,750 positions. The vast majority of the layoffs affected corporate and executive employees. The shakeup comes as an activist investor is pushing for major changes at the airline in an effort to improve profitability.
EVA Air Gets a New Premium Economy Seat
EVA Air, the Taiwanese airline that introduced the concept of Premium Economy, has just rolled out a new Premium Economy seat. The seat will appear on the carrier’s yet to be delivered Boeing 787-9s. There is no official word from the airline as to whether its existing aircraft will be retrofitted with the new seats.
