After a multi-year restoration led by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the 375-room Waldorf Astoria New York is preparing to re-open its doors in spring 2025. The hotel will begin accepting reservations for stays beginning in 2025 on December 10, 2024.
The re-opening of the property has been long awaited, the hotel initially closed for remodeling back in 2017, and will usher in a new chapter in the history of this historic property.
The updated Waldorf Astoria New York will feature fewer guest rooms than it previously had but, rooms will be much larger. According to the hotel, most rooms will be in excess of 570 square feet which places them on the upper end of hotel rooms in Manhattan in terms of size.
In addition to 375 guest rooms, the hotel will also have 375 residences that will range in size from studios to four bedroom units. Residents will have access to 50,000 square feet of exclusive amenities as well as an art collection curated by Swiss collector and auctioneer Simon de Pury.
Hotel guests, residents, and visitors will have access to a spa spanning over 30,000 square feet, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and an outdoor terrace. Guests can also visit the hotel’s new restaurant, Lex Yard, run by Chef Michael Anthony. Peacock Alley, the iconic lounge and bar synonymous with the Waldorf Astoria brand, will also return to the heart of the hotel.
Even if you don’t stay at the property, there’s still a good chance you’ll visit. The well known event spaces including the Grand Ballroom, Jade Room, Astor Salon, Basildon Room, and Silver Corridor have all been refreshed and make up some of the 43,000 square feet of event space at the hotel. The Grand Ballroom will also have a separate, private entrance with dedicated elevators.
Dino Michael, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Hilton Luxury Brands, had this to say about the re-opening of the historic property:
“The reopening of Waldorf Astoria New York is more than a milestone—it marks the beginning of a bold new era for our brand. For over a century, this legendary hotel has defined glamour and sophistication, and now it will serve as the flagship of a reimagined Waldorf Astoria. We’re thrilled to welcome guests back to this famed address, where timeless elegance meets modern luxury. ”
Following its opening, Waldorf Astoria New York will participate in Hilton Honors, the guest loyalty program for the 24 brands under the Hilton umbrella. More information on the hotel can be found here.
Summary
After a large scale restoration project, the Waldorf Astoria New York is preparing to re-open its doors in spring 2025. The hotel will begin accepting reservations on December 10, 2024. The remodeled property looks fantastic and, while rooms will likely be well out of my price range, I’ll be tempted to stop by and check out the common areas the next time I’m in New York.
