W Hotels unveiled the new W Prague today, marking the brand’s first property in the Czech Republic. The opening of the new hotel marks the next chapter for the former Grand Hotel Evropa, a renowned Art Nouveau-style property located on Wenceslas Square.
W Prague Overview
W Prague joins newly unveiled European properties, such as W Rome and W Budapest, and blends Prague’s heritage-filled legacy with contemporary touches throughout. W Prague revitalizes the former and famed hotel, once a witness to many historical moments and a pioneer of innovation in the 1900s.
George Fleck, Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader of W Hotels, had this to say about the new property:
“As we debut W Prague, we’re not just opening a new hotel – we are breathing new life into one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. W Prague fuses the enchanted history of the storied destination with bold, visionary design, creating an experience that both honors the city’s deep cultural legacy and embraces its vibrant, modern energy. This opening is a further representation of W Hotels’ momentum in Europe and beyond, setting a fresh standard for what luxury can mean in the heart of such a beloved city.”
As part of the remodel, W Prague added a new, modern wing onto the property, allowing the hotel to accommodate 161 guestrooms, including 23 suites. Two of the property’s suites lean in to the blend of old and new with the E-WOW Suite on the 8th floor showcasing the architecture of the new building while the WOW Bohemia Duplex in the original building features restored beams and decorative arch windows.
W Prague Amenities
W Prague features a variety of amenities including a myriad of food and beverage venues, each offering unique experiences. The hotel’s primary restaurant, Le Petit Beefbar at Grand Café is an upscale bistro focusing on shared dishes with premium and local meats. It is the W Prague’s revival of the old Grand Café from the Grand Hotel Evropa days.
W Lounge serves as the hub of the hotel and the lobby bar. It is located in the new wing of the property and, coupled with the W Lounge Garden, transitions throughout the day from a relaxing morning space to evening hotspot.
Guests can also visit Bisou, a french inspired restaurant, for coffee, local wines, and champagne. If you’re like Mrs. ATX and love a good rooftop bar, W Prague has the Above Rooftop, a seasonal outdoor terrace which is slated to open during spring and summer.
Finally, on the food and beverage front, you’ll find Minus One hidden down in the basement. Featuring premium cocktails and a performance and lounge spacs, it makes for an inviting atmosphere for guests.
Minus One also has a hidden speakeasy which is great for those seeking a nightcap in a more intimate setting. There is also a separate room in the bar that can be used for private tastings.
W Prague also has the AWAY Spa, the brand’s stunning signature WET pool, and a gym equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and Fitness on Demand offerings. As an avid runner, my favorite aspect is the connection between the hotel and a local running club for those looking to get some miles in during their stay.
My Take on W Prague
Mrs. ATX and I recently visited Prague and stayed at the nearby Andaz Prague. The location on Wenceslas Square is in the middle of the action and walking distance from many of the famous attractions in the city, including Old Town Square.
While I would gladly stay at the Andaz Prague again, W Prague may have jumped to the top of my list given its location and amenities offered on property. Between the speakeasy, rooftop bar, and local run club, I’ll definitely be looking at staying here on my next trip to the Czech capital.
Summary
W Hotels has just expanded to the Czech Republic with the opening of W Prague. The hotel’s central location and long list of amenities puts this property at the top of my curiosity list for my next trip to the city.
