Marriott and MGM Resorts are Opening the W Las Vegas

Marriott International and MGM Resorts International are hoping that the third time’s the charm when it comes to the W Hotels in Las Vegas. The two organizations announced today that they would be converting the Delano Las Vegas hotel to the W Las Vegas before the end of the year.

The W Las Vegas Hotel is slated to open by the end of the year.

The property, located on the Mandalay Bay campus, will be the third attempt at a W Las Vegas hotel. The first property never got off the ground while the second attempt at the Sahara closed after a few years in business. Hopefully, this new iteration of the property will work out in the long run.

While it will be located at the far end of the Las Vegas Strip, it should be easy to fill with convention and sports traffic thanks to the massive convention center on property and the close proximity to Allegiant Stadium and T-Mobile Arena.

A new W Hotel is coming to Las Vegas
The new W Las Vegas is located on the southern end of the Las Vegas Strip.

Leeny Oberg, Marriott International Chief Financial Officer and EVP of Development, had this to say about the rebranded property:

“We’re thrilled to continue working with MGM to bring W Las Vegas to the legendary Las Vegas Strip. This agreement is a pivotal moment in our collaboration, which continues to expand hospitality and entertainment offerings for guests. As a luxury brand rooted in bold design and nightlife, W Hotels is well-positioned to elevate experiences for travelers in this destination.”

This is an interesting new development, especially when you consider the rapid turnaround time and the fact that the W Hotels brand just went through a refresh. While I’m not familiar with the Delano brand, I didn’t even know it was a brand until today, I can’t imagine any extensive renovations will be done between now and the opening.

The press release notes that the hotel is slated to officially join the W Hotels portfolio later this year and additional plans for the property will be announced in the future.

While there are many hotels located along the Las Vegas strip, there aren’t many on-strip hotels under the major brand flags. Personally, I’m excited for this property to “open” and look forward to trying it out on a future trip to Las Vegas. Though, this hotel may not be high on everyone’s list as it is located on the far south end of the Las Vegas Strip.

Summary

Marriott’s W Hotels brand is making its return to the Las Vegas Strip. The Delano Las Vegas will be rebranded to the W Las Vegas sometime in late 2024. The property, located on the Mandalay Bay campus, will be the third attempt at a W Hotel in the city.
