Volaris, a Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC), is expanding its route map significantly with 16 new routes and a brand new destination.

According to airline route guru IshrionA, Volaris is planning to launch the following routes:
- Newark (EWR) to Guadalajara (GDL)
- Newark (EWR) to San Salvador (SAL)
- Los Angeles (LAX) to Tepic (TPQ)
- Los Angeles (LAX) to Querétaro (QRO)
- Dallas (DFW) to San Luis Potosí (SLP)
- Dallas (DFW) to Morelia (MLM)
- San Antonio (SAT) to San Luis Potosí (SLP)
- San Antonio (SAT) to Morelia (MLM)
- Houston (IAH) to Morelia (MLM)
- Houston (IAH) to San Luis Potosí (SLP)
- Ontario (ONT) to Morelia (MLM)
- Ontario (ONT) to León (BJX)
- Ontario (ONT) to Los Cabos (SJD)
- Sacramento to Morelia (MLM)
- Orlando (MCO) to San José, CR (SJO)
- Miami (MIA) to San José, CR (SJO)
While my home airport of Austin (AUS) won’t see any new service, three other Texas airports are seeing the addition of two routes each. Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) also joins Volaris’ route map with the launch of service to Guadalajara (GDL) and San Salvador (SAL).
Volaris is Mexico’s largest airline in terms of passengers served and is locked in a fierce battle with Viva Aerobus (another Mexican ULCC) for market share. It will be interesting to see if and how Viva Aerobus responds to this expansion but, we have seen them go head to head in the past.

Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier Volaris has unveiled a massive expansion, announcing sixteen new routes and one new destination. The largest airline in Mexico is facing competition from fellow ULCC Viva Aerobus, which should be good for carriers looking for cheap fares between the United States and Mexico.

Besides all these routes sound like routes filed,, not any immediate plans to open any of them now
jetBlue, Southwest, etc. are low-cost carriers, includes some basic services in the ticket cost while not being a legacy airline, ULCCs typically have unbundled fares where you pay for each individual item (seat assignments, bags, etc.). Granted the line has become much more blurred in recent years.
