Spirit Makes Changes to its Booking Options

Last year the ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) updated its fare bundles in an effort to pursue more premium passengers. At that time, the new fare bundles became:

  • Go Big: This is Spirit’s version of First Class and includes a Big Front Seat, snacks and drinks, including alcoholic beverages, one carry-on bag, one checked bag, priority check-in and boarding, and Wi-Fi. The Big Front Seat features enhanced comfort with wider seats, extra legroom, additional seat cushioning and no middle seat.
  • Go Comfy: A brand-new seating option for the airline, which features increased comfort and space with a guaranteed blocked middle seat (think European Business Class), one carry-on bag, one checked bag, priority boarding, and a snack and non-alcoholic beverage.
  • Go Savvy: This option provides passengers with the choice of either one carry-on bag or one checked bag and standard seat selection during booking.
  • Go: This product is the closest to Spirit’s current base ticket. It will offer the greatest affordability for those who want to keep it simple with the flexibility to purchase any of the following options: checked bags, standard seat selection, Wi-Fi, and snacks and beverages.

Last month, we saw Spirit make some tweaks to its product lineup, specifically the addition of extra legroom seating as part of its Go Comfy bundle. Now it appears that we have seen the latest evolution for the airline and one that honestly makes a lot of sense.

Starting today, June 24, 2025, Spirit has rebranded its travel options as Spirit First, Premium Economy, and Value. The airline describes each of the options as follows:

  • Spirit First (formerly Go Big) provides enhanced comfort with a Big Front Seat, a carry-on and first checked bag, no change or cancel fees, Priority Check-In and Boarding, reserved overhead bin space, complimentary snacks and drinks, including alcoholic beverages, and streaming access to fast Wi-Fi.
  • Premium Economy (formerly Go Comfy) allows Guests to stretch out with more space in a Premium Seat with extra legroom or a blocked middle seat and includes one carry-on bag, no change or cancel fees, Priority Boarding and reserved overhead bin space.
    • Spirit is installing extra-legroom Premium Seats, which offer four additional inches of legroom, across its fleet. The extra-legroom seating includes seven rows and more than 40 seats near the front of the aircraft and will be available for travel based on availability beginning July 9, 2025. Spirit plans to phase out the blocked middle seat to allow for the introduction of extra-legroom seating.
  • Value (formerly Go) maximizes affordability and flexibility with the option for travelers to select only the extras they need. Seat selection, one carry-on bag, checked bags and other options can be purchased separately.

Spirit Airlines’ Go Big product is being rebranded as Spirit First.

Rana Ghosh, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Spirit Airlines, said this about the changes:

“We’re simplifying choices so travelers can better understand and compare their options and the exceptional value that Spirit provides. Our Big Front Seat has been one of the best kept secrets, and these updates will bring more travelers in the know that Spirit offers one of the industry’s most affordable options for a premium experience.”

As part of the rebrand, the carrier has phased out the Go Savvy travel bundle. The carrier notes that all existing Go Savvy reservations will be honored.

Personally, I think that these changes make sense and will make it easier for passengers to understand what they’re getting. Hopefully passengers like the changes and it makes it easier for them to book with the carrier. I flew Spirit last year and was pleasantly surprised with my experience in what was then branded as the Go Big product.

Summary

Spirit Airlines has revamped its travel booking options for the second time in under a year. The carrier is replacing its “Go ______” branding with Spirit First, Premium Economy, and Value. It will be interesting to see how this changes the airline’s position in the market and whether they are able to capture more premium travel.
