Spirit Airlines is adding six new routes to its network and bringing back three previously served routes. The ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) has been adding and removing routes like crazy in recent months as it searches for a way out of bankruptcy.
The six new routes were initially reported by IshrionA on Twitter/X and are expected to operate less than daily. All of the following routes are expected to begin in March 2025:
- 3x weekly flights between Houston-Intercontinental (IAH) and Nashville (BNA) launching March 5, 2025
- 2x weekly flights between San Antonio (SAT) and San Juan (SJU) launching March 5, 2025
- 4x weekly flights between Louisville (SDF) and Myrtle Beach (MYR) launching March 19, 2025
- 2x weekly flights between Baltimore/Washington (BWI) and Punta Cana (PUJ) launching March 20, 2025
- 3x weekly flights between Chicago-O’Hare (ORD) and Pensacola (PNS) launching March 20, 2025
- 3x weekly flights between Detroit (DTW) and Pensacola (PNS) launching March 22, 2025
In addition to the six new routes, Spirit is also bringing back three previously operated routes. The carrier will relaunch service on the following routes in March 2025:
- Louisville (SDF) to Tampa (TPA) operating 1x weekly
- Milwaukee (MKE) to Southwest Florida (RSW) operating 3x weekly
- Minneapolis/St. Paul (MSP) to Orlando (MCO) operating 4x weekly
Looking at the map, these routes seem to be all over the place. While Florida is an endless pit of demand in the winter, these routes all start in March. While that is just in time for Spring Break, most of these routes have competition from other carriers which could lead to lower fares. This is great for consumers but, not great for an airline looking to emerge from bankruptcy. It will be interesting to see how long these routes last before the airline makes changes to them again.
Summary
Spirit Airlines is tweaking its route yet again, launching six new routes and bringing three others back into service. While none of the new additions are routes that I typically fly, I did have a nice flight on Spirit recently and would fly with them again if the timing and price were right.
