Southwest Airlines is Offering Another Companion Pass Promotion

Southwest Airlines is back with another one of its popular companion pass promotions. This one is pretty easy though you’ll have to act fast if you want to participate.

Book and Fly One Roundtrip Flight to Earn a Promotional Companion Pass

Southwest Airlines sent an email to customers today offering them promotional companion pass for a little over two months if they book and fly one roundtrip flight. Two one-way tickets would also qualify though you’ll have to act fast as this offer is only good through Friday, June 27, 2025.

According to the airline, passengers need to do the following in order to qualify:

  • Register for the promotion.
  • Purchase one roundtrip flight or two one-way tickets by June 27, 2025 (Tickets must be booked after registering). Note that Basic fares, formerly Wanna Get Away fares, are excluded from this promotion so double check your booking.
  • Complete travel by August 31, 2025

Once all three of these criteria have been fulfilled, your promotional Companion Pass will be added to your Rapid Rewards account on September 8, 2025. Companions can travel for free, plus applicable taxes and fees, between September 8 and November 15, 2025.

This Offer Overlaps With Another Promotional Companion Pass

I find the timing of this by Southwest to be somewhat interesting as the promotional Companion Pass period overlaps with another promotion the carrier did earlier this year. In February, Southwest announced an almost identical promotion which would award a promotional Companion Pass to travelers between August 7 and October 8, 2025.

At the time, Southwest hadn’t yet made the major changes to its operating model that we’ve seen in recent months and so I jumped on this offer. A quick roundtrip flight between Austin and Dallas was enough to lock me into a Companion Pass for a couple of trips we had planned for the fall so it seemed like a no brainer.

Ultimately, I went head and registered for the promotion but I probably won’t follow through on a booking. I would maybe have one trip where I could utilize a Companion Pass in the five week period not covered by the one I already earned so the value just isn’t there for me. I’m curious to hear what others are thinking, especially if you already earned the earlier promotional Companion Pass like me.

I don’t see the value in chasing down this secondary Companion Pass.

Summary

Southwest Airlines is back with another promotional Companion Pass offer. This one has a tight timeline for registration and booking and also overlaps with an existing Companion Pass promo period from earlier in the year.

If you took advantage of that deal, this one may not be appealing to you. However, if you didn’t act on the promotion earlier this year, this may be worth a look even with the restrictions regarding Basic fares.
