Another month has come and gone and the holidays are right around the corner (this year is flying by) which means it’s time for the September 2024 monthly recap. After taking a crazy mileage run last month to requalify for my British Airways status, September saw us slow things down a bit with some family trips.
While the travel may have been more relaxing, it was a busy month as far as route announcements as airlines begin looking towards the Summer 2025 travel season. We saw adds, cuts, and one route that seems to have been eliminated after reports of it surfaced online. So, without further ado, let’s dive in.
American Airlines Announces Five New Routes to Europe
American Airlines is making a major change to its route map for Summer 2025 with the introduction of five new routes to Europe. In addition to expanded transatlantic flying, the carrier is adding additional frequencies and larger aircraft on eight more international routes. These new routes mark a shift for the carrier as they have ceded international flying to partner carriers in recent years, choosing instead to focus on its domestic network. It’s nice to see them refocus on their global route network.
Delta Bulks Up Further in Austin with the Addition of Five More Routes
While American was adding internationally, Delta’s Austin focus city is quickly becoming a mini hub for the carrier. On the heels of the news that American had essentially abandoned its Austin experiment, Delta has come in big once again, adding five new destinations from the Central Texas airport. This is the latest in a long line of expanded flying from Austin this year as the Atlanta based carrier makes its play for Austin market share.
Flights Between Frankfurt and Nashville, Not So Fast
Early last month we reported that Nashville International Airport (BNA) was on the verge of obtaining another transatlantic flight. Lufthansa Group’s long-haul leisure brand, Discover Airlines, was reportedly planning to add flights between the Tennessee Capital and Frankfurt, Germany. However, after being widely reported, an airline spokesperson informed them that the airport is now not moving forward with a direct flight to Germany in 2025.

Flight Review: United Boeing 737-800 First Class
While it seemed like there was a new route announcement every day this month, I did in fact do some flying. A quick trip up to Denver for the weekend gave me a chance to review a plane that I’m very familiar with as a United Frequent Flyer. Though this aircraft hadn’t gone through the retrofit process to get the new domestic interiors, the crew was fantastic and made sure we had everything we needed during the flight (aside from working Wi-FI which is outside of their control).
Lounge Review: United Club Fly Denver
United Club Fly is a grab-and-go concept from United that can be accessed with a United Club membership. Currently there is only one United Club Fly location throughout the airline’s network, which is located in Denver International Airport’s Concourse B. The space feels more like a convenience store than a lounge with a variety of grab and go snacks. A barista was the only employee in the lounge during my visit.
Summary
Thanks for following along with the site and checking out the September 2024 monthly recap. I’ve got a few remaining domestic trips on the books for 2024 before switching my focus to international flying for 2025. Hopefully there will be a few exotic, off the beaten path reviews in there along the way.
As always, thanks for your continued support and for visiting my little corner of the internet.
Thanks for the update. Always enjoy your reports!
