Senator John Fetterman Argues With American Eagle Crew Over Wearing His Seatbelt

A video posted on X earlier today from an incident in February appears to show Senator John Fetterman arguing with an American Eagle pilot over the use of his seatbelt.

The incident was posted to X by user Molly Ploofkins and shared by xJonNYC. The crewmember can be seen speaking with the junior Senator from Pennsylvania regarding the use of his seatbelt, stating that it is a federal regulation that the crew be able to see that the belt is fastened during the flight.

While the two go back and forth, tempers don’t appear to flair in this situation. While it is difficult to make out everything Fetterman is saying, given his back is to the camera, the polio at one point offers him a seatbelt extender to allow for the seatbelt to be visible to the crew.

One has to imagine that the flight attendants had to ask him multiple times to buckle or make visible his seat belt before getting the flight deck involved. While we don’t have any specific details as to when this occurred, the aircraft in question appears to be a regional jet, likely an Embraer E175 or Bombardier CRJ-700 based on the seat layout.

The pilot mentions that the plane is headed for Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), near Fetterman’s residence in Braddock, Pennsylvania and is likely departing from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) near the Capitol. The incident occurred less than a month after a similar aircraft collided with a Blackhawk helicopter on approach to DCA and is coming to light after an article describing the incident was posted in New York magazine.

Summary

Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman was spotted arguing with the crew of an American Eagle flight regarding the use and visibility of his seatbelt.
