Scandinavian Airlines, better known as SAS, is reintroducing European Business Class onboard its planes. According to the airline, the change is coming as a response to increasing customer demand for premium service.

SAS Reintroduces European Business Class

The re-introduction of Business Class will help strengthen the airline’s competitive position in Scandinavia and throughout Europe. While Business Class in Europe typically isn’t anything to get excited about, the lack of the product on intra-Europe flights may have cost the carrier some bookings along the way.

European Business Class will be available on all international flights, including within Scandinavia, beginning on October 1, 2025. Tickets will go on sale as of May 6, 2025.

Currently, the airline features SAS Plus onboard its narrowbody aircraft which is essentially a hybrid between European Business Class and Economy. While you receive perks like extra baggage allowance, complimentary snacks and beverages, and priority boarding, there are no blocked middle seats.

We flew with the carrier in SAS Plus last year as part of our babymoon and found the product to be fine for a short trip, though it would have been nice to have had the middle seat blocked.

Paul Verhagen, Chief Commercial Officer at SAS, said this about the reintroduction of Business Class:

Many of our comfort- and quality-focused travelers expect a clearly defined European Business Class that aligns with international standards. While SAS Plus has provided an upgraded experience, it has lacked the recognition and clarity that travelers seek. With the reintroduction of European Business Class, we are ensuring that SAS offers the premium experience of a top European airline.”

What to Expect in SAS European Business Class

By all accounts, SAS will have roughly the same Business Class product found on major airlines across Europe. Passengers can expect:

  • Enhanced Dining Options: New food and beverage offerings focusing on a more premium and flexible dining experience. Business Class passengers will also receive reusable porcelain tableware in an effort to reduce waste.
  • Dedicated Business Class Cabin: The Business Class cabin will be separated from Economy with a curtain and overhead divider.
  • Blocked Middle Seats: Business Class in Europe is essentially an Economy seat with a blocked middle, allowing passengers more space to spread out.
  • Priority Ground Services: Priority check-in, boarding and access to more lounges, will help provide a more premium travel experience.

According to the press release from the carrier, the launch supports its long-term strategy and strengthens Copenhagen’s role as a global hub for Scandinavian and European connectivity, while also simplifying connections and offering a more cohesive experience for passengers traveling across multiple alliance airlines.

Summary

SAS is officially reintroducing Business Class on its intra-Europe flights as of October 1, 2025. This will replace the carrier’s current SAS Plus offering and is being done in an effort to respond to premium travel demand in the market. While SAS Plus was a fine product on shorter flights, I know many will be glad to see a true Business Class offering, even if it is EuroBiz.
