A Ritz-Carlton Reserve is Coming to Abu Dhabi

Marriott International announced today that the uber-luxurious Ritz-Carlton Reserve brand is opening a property on Ramhan Island in Abu Dhabi. The property will be the first Ritz-Carlton Reserve in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and join the seven existing properties in Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Indonesia, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.

For those who aren’t familiar, Ritz-Carlton Reserve is a very niche sub-brand nestled within The Ritz Carlton brand. The press release defines it as offering “a complete escape to the unexpected that is centered around human connection and brings together unique elements of the local culture, heritage and environment. Created for the most discerning travelers seeking a distinct and luxurious escape, Reserve properties are tucked away in handpicked corners of the world, featuring chic, relaxed and intimate settings that weave indigenous flavors with highly responsive and individualized service.” The property on Ramhan Island is expected to offer a secluded waterfront escape with expansive views across the Arabian Gulf.

Sandeep Walia, Chief Operating Officer – Middle East, at Marriott International had this to say about the upcoming property:

“Together with Eagle Hills, we look forward to bringing Ritz-Carlton Reserve to the UAE and offering intimate and transformative experiences in an ultra-luxury setting. This monumental signing marks an important addition to our portfolio in the country where we continue to see a strong demand for luxury experiences.”

Sandeep Walia, COO – Middle East

Eagle Hills is an Abu Dhabi-based private real estate investment and development company that operates and develops hotels across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East under luxury brands such as St. Regis and Mandarin Oriental. The Ritz-Carlton Reserve Abu Dhabi is expected to open sometime in 2029.

Ritz-Carlton Reserve Abu Dhabi Specifications

With the announcement being signed today, and the hotel expected to open in 5+ years, we don’t have many specifications but what has been announced seems extremely impressive (and way out of my price range). This property will be the first Ritz-Carlton Reserve in the UAE, which is known for its opulence and luxury offerings, so its no surprise that they pulled out all of the stops here.series of waterways

The property will sit on Ramhan Island, a natural island that is connected by a series of waterways that comers more than four million square meters (roughly 43 million sq. ft.). The Ritz-Carlton Reserve will sit on a secluded island within the development and feature 50 villas ranging from one to four bedrooms.

The property is also expected to boast the first floating villas in the area (I hope they mean overwater and not actually floating) with unobstructed waterfront views. While we’re too far out for any specific details, the announcement states that the property will include “lavish leisure amenities and multiple culinary venues.”

In addition, the surrounding development of Ramhan Island will have other luxury hotels, residential villas, and marina residences making the island a mixed space for residents and tourists.

Summary

Marriott is planning to open its first Ritz-Carlton Reserve in the United Arab Emirates on Ramhan Island in Abu Dhabi. The property is expected to feature 50 villas ranging from one to four bedrooms. While we only have a single arial rendering at this point, if it is anything like the other Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties I’m sure it’ll be quite impressive.
