On a recent trip to Denver I had some time to kill prior to my flight home. I decided to do some lounge hopping and, after getting Mrs. ATX and ATX Jr. settled in the United Club in Concourse A, next to our gate, I headed off to Concourse B to check out the United Club Fly concept at Denver International Airport (DEN).
United Club Fly Denver Location
As I mentioned above, the United Club Fly space is located in Concourse B on the eastern end across from Gate B60. If you’re walking from the train towards gate B60, the lounge will be on your left. It’s clearly marked with a large sign on a massive wooden wall.
If you hit the big wall of windows where the regional jet piers split off, you’ve gone too far. It’s great for planespotting though.
United Club Fly Denver Hours of Operation
The United Club Fly concept in Denver is open between 7:00a-8:00p daily, this covers most, but not all, of the carrier’s departures from the airport.
United Club Fly Denver Entry Requirements
While the United Club Fly lounge is a grab and go location, it is considered a standard United Club as far as entry requirements are concerned. There are a few different ways to access United Clubs. The most common is via a United Club membership.
These annual memberships can be purchased directly and range in cost from $650 for general Mileage Plus members along with Silver and Gold elites, $600 for Platinum, and $550 for Premier 1K. Chase also has a United Club card that comes with access for a $525 annual fee.
In addition to a membership, select premium passengers can access the United Club. Of the big 3 US airlines, United is the most lenient when it comes to club access on premium tickets.
United Polaris Business Class passengers, Business Class passengers on an international or transcontinental flight, and First Class passengers heading to Canada can access the United Club. First and Business Class passengers on a Star Alliance airline and Star Alliance Gold members also have access. Finally, you can purchase a day pass for $59 and prices are discounted for those flying in Premium Plus.
United also offers bundles after booking such as a United Club trip pass & Wi-Fi which is how we accessed the club. The full list of access requirements and terms and conditions can be found here.
One item of note is the fact that there are no agents at this United Club Fly location. Because of this, guests of eligible travelers are unable to access the lounge. Entry is done by scanning your boarding pass or membership card at the e-gates. Once verified, the gate opens and you’re allowed inside.
Layout
The United Club Fly has a very simple layout. This lounge functions like a small convenience store and has a few groups of seats near the front with some small tables.
In the middle of the space there’s a row of counters. One side has barstools while the other is standing room only.
The exit is located in the back corner of the lounge. This is also where the food and beverage coolers are located.
Food and Beverage
Since this lounge operates using a “grab and go” concept, all of the food and beverage options are on display in coolers at the rear of the lounge.
Prepackaged sandwiches, salads, fruit and cheese cups, and a selection of yogurt are on display in coolers.
A variety of non-alcoholic beverages are also available in the lounge. Since it’s a self-service concept, no alcohol is available in the UNited Club Fly lounge.
Cereal, oatmeal, muffins, chips, and cookies are also on offer. While it wasn’t a huge selection, they were doing a good job of keeping everything stocked with how busy it was.
Finally, in the rear of the lounge opposite the exit, there is a coffee space featuring barista made beverages.
Atmosphere
This space is intended for a quick visit to grab some snacks prior to a flight. However, given the sparse amenities at this end of the concourse people were clearly using this as a mini-lounge as every one of the very limited seats were occupied.
It’s a great concept for passengers on the go but, don’t plan on spending much time here. It would be like trying to relax inside of a 7-Eleven.
Summary
The United Club Fly lounge in Denver International Airport’s Concourse B is a great resource for travelers with tight layovers looking to grab a quick snack. It’s not a space intended for passengers to spend much time in yet, clearly, the lack of options on this end of the concourse has some people trying to use this as a traditional lounge.
