Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) has reopened to commercial traffic.

Delta flight 2958, operated by an Airbus A319, from Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP) was the first arrival at the airport after the accident, arriving just after 11:00a local time.

Though traffic is flowing back into the airport, I would expect significant flight disruptions today and into tomorrow. This is especially true for American Airlines flights as the carrier operates a hub at the airport and has had many planes, crew, and passengers displaced as a result of yesterday’s closure.

Multiple airlines have issued travel waivers as a result of the accident. If you’re flying to, from, or through DCA in the next few days, check with your airline regarding the status of your flight.

The airport was forced to close when an American Eagle CRJ-700 aircraft, operated by PSA Airlines as flight 5342 from Wichita, Kansas, collided with a military helicopter on final approach to Runway 33 at the airport. Both aircraft crashed into the Potomac River and, sadly, all individuals on both aircraft are presumed deceased. American Airlines has set up a webpage for more information regarding the accident.

  1. A cursory look seems to show that the sole ICT-DCA flight is cancelled for a week. It is at least cancelled for tonight and not bookable for the next 6 days.
