Porter Airlines is expanding its footprint in the New York City area by adding flights to LaGuardia Airport (LGA). The airline will connect Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) with LaGuardia up to three times a day beginning May 1, 2025.

LaGuardia will join Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) as its second destination in the New York Area. Porter began serving Newark back in 2008 with flights to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ).
According to the airline, it will offer connections through Toronto Pearson to destinations throughout Canada, including Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montréal, Ottawa, Saskatoon, Winnipeg and Vancouver. The airline also has an interline partnership with JetBlue, which will offer passengers connecting opportunities at LGA to various destinations in the United States.
Porter plans to use its new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft on the route which feature 132 seats in an all Economy configuration. Though planes are in an all-Economy configuration, a selection of premium snacks, free beer, and wine served in glassware are included for all passengers. The airline also has extra legroom seats available.
Porter Airlines will operate out of Terminal B at LaGuardia Airport and flights will operate on the following schedule:
Route | Departs | Arrives | Frequency |
---|---|---|---|
YYZ-LGA | 7:15a | 8:55a | Daily |
YYZ-LGA | 2:50p | 4:30p | Daily |
YYZ-LGA | 7:25p | 9:05p | Except Saturdays |
LGA-YYZ | 6:15a | 7:55a | Except Sundays |
LGA-YYZ | 9:55a | 11:35a | Daily |
LGA-YYZ | 5:30p | 7:10p | Daily |
The airline will have quite a bit of competition on the route as Air Canada operates a whopping 11x daily, American has 5x daily flights, and Delta flies 6x daily.
I was somewhat surprised to see the airline move in on this extremely busy route instead of opting for service to the much closer Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, especially considering a new U.S. Customs Pre-Clearance facility is opening there this year (LaGuardia does not have Customs and Immigration facilities).
It will be interesting to see how Porter does on the route, especially with such stiff competition.
Summary
Porter Airlines is launching service between New York’s LaGuardia Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport in May 2025. The airline will be going head to head with Air Canada, American Airlines, and Delta Air Lines on the busy route, which sees in excess of 20 flights per day each way.
