Hyatt Hotels Announces Plans for the Park Hyatt Sapporo

Hyatt Hotel Corporation announced that a Hyatt affiliate has entered into a management agreement for a new Park Hyatt hotel in Sapporo. The new property is scheduled to open in 2029. It will be the fourth Park Hyatt branded hotel in the country, including the Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono, located in Hokkaido’s leading ski resort.

The announcement comes a month after Marriott International announced its own expansion in Sapporo with the opening of the first Courtyard by Marriott in Hokkaido. While the two hotels are on opposite ends of the service spectrum, it illustrates that the demand in Sapporo is strong.

Sapporo is quickly becoming a hub for tourism thanks to Hokkaido’s wilderness, snow-capped mountains, and seafood. The city is connected to Tokyo via 90-minute flights and soon by high-speed rail. The Hokkaido Shinkansen is expected to be operational to Sapporo by 2030.

The hotel will be located in a mixed-used tower at the intersection of Odori Park and Sapporo Ekimae-dori, the city’s main commercial and business thoroughfare. It is expected to span the 27th through 35th floors, offering great views across the city.

Park Hyatt Sapporo will offer 157 luxurious rooms and suites, world-class culinary and wellness experiences, an indoor swimming pool and meeting and event spaces.

The property will join Hyatt’s growing portfolio in Japan which currently features 21 hotels from nine brands, that include Andaz, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, Caption by Hyatt, and The Unbound Collection by Hyatt.

Summary

Hyatt Hotels Corporation is opening a new Park Hyatt in Sapporo. It will be the brand’s fourth property in Japan and second in Hokkaido Prefecture. The new property is expected to open in 2029 and is the latest in the list of new hotels coming to Japan’s fifth largest city. Until these new properties were announced, Sapporo wasn’t even on my radar. Now, I’m starting to think I need to see the place for myself.
