Norse Atlantic Airways, a Norwegian low-cost, long-haul airline, is launching flights between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Athens International Airport (ATH) this summer. This gives Athens its first nonstop flight to and from the U.S. West Coast.
The route, which was first reported by IshrionA, will operate 4x weekly June 3 to September 29, 2025 using Boeing 787-9s Dreamliner aircraft. Norse Atlantic Airways operates its Boeing 787s in a two cabin layout offering Premium Economy and Economy class seating. At a glance, prices on the route are very reasonable, especially when you consider the distance.
The route spans 6,928 miles and flights are blocked at 12h 40m eastbound and 13h 30m westbound. The carrier is operating the flights at different times depending on the day of the week. On Tuesdays and Fridays the flight will operate on the following schedule:
Flight | Departure | Arrival |
---|---|---|
N0511 (ATH-LAX) | 9:00a | 12:30p |
N0512 (LAX-ATH) | 2:30p | 1:10p (+1 day) |
On Wednesdays and Saturdays the flights will operate on the following schedule:
Flight | Departure | Arrival |
---|---|---|
N0511 (ATH-LAX) | 3:10p | 6:40p |
N0512 (LAX-ATH) | 8:40p | 7:20p (+1 day) |
While it is exciting to see an airport like LAX gain service to a new destination, I’m curious to see what the loads will be like on this flight. Greece is certainly a popular destination, especially in the summer, bit 13+ hours in Economy is quite a long time, especially when you consider that there are a plethora of one-stop options available.
Mrs. ATX and I visited Greece a couple of years ago and we really enjoyed ourselves. Athens isn’t high up on my list but it is a great jumping off point for those looking to visit the Greek Isles. Santorini is a place that we definitely want to return to, along with visits to other islands in the area.
Summary
Greece is shaping up to be a popular travel destination for 2025. Delta and American have both added additional service to Athens for the upcoming summer season and now Norse Atlantic Airways is jumping into the mix, adding new service between Athens and Los Angeles.
