Marriott International announced today that it has signed an agreement to open the first Autograph Collection safari camp in Tanzania. The Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection, is expected to open in Q3 2025 and will deliver a distinct and immersive safari experience in Tanzania’s world-renowned Serengeti wilderness.

Mapito Safari Camp will be an Autograph Collection Property

Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection will be located in the heart of the Serengeti, near the Fort Ikoma gate of Serengeti National Park. Positioned between Central Serengeti and the western migration corridor, the camp lies directly along the Great Migration route, where vast herds of wildebeest, zebra and antelope pass through between May and July each year. The surrounding area teems with wildlife year-round; including lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and giraffe. This makes for remarkable wildlife encounters regardless of the season.

Jerome Briet, Chief Development Officer for Europe, Middle East & Africa at Marriott International, had this to say about the new property:

“Mapito Safari Camp will mark a defining moment for Autograph Collection as we introduce the brand’s first safari experience in one of the world’s most breathtaking wildlife destinations. The Serengeti’s scale, beauty, and cultural heritage will make an unforgettable setting for a property that will embody the individuality and character that Autograph Collection is known for.”

The new property will offer 16 tented suites, including a two bedroom villa. Each will feature an outdoor deck, fire pit, and retractable roof for open-air stargazing, a first for the region according to the press release. Plans for the property also include a spa, fitness center, swimming pool and multiple dining options. One of which is The Boma, a communal restaurant inspired by traditional bonfire gatherings.

Design inspiration for the property will be drawn from the surrounding landscape as well as local Ikoma culture. The property plans to incorporate sustainable practices that support conservation and minimize environmental impact where possible.

Guests of the property can expect a range of activities including daytime game drives and night safaris along with walking safaris, hot air balloon flights, bush dining, and engagement with the local Ikoma tribe.

Rishen Patel, developer of Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection, said this about the property and its partnership with Marriott:

“We are excited to collaborate with Marriott International to bring Autograph Collection to the Serengeti. This camp will offer an intimate, and immersive experience that reflects both the natural wonder of the region and the timeless storytelling and craftsmanship of the brand.”

A definitive opening date for the property has not yet been given and rooms are not yet on sale. However, given the remoteness and amenities, you can expect this to get quite pricey. Mrs. ATX and I are considering a safari adventure for an upcoming anniversary or round-number birthday and looking at many different properties. Based on its location and the timing we would be going, this property will definitely be on the list.

Summary

Marriott International is opening its first ever Autograph Collection safari camp. The property will be located in the Serengeti wilderness in Tanzania and will be branded as the Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection. With only 16 tent suites, this will be a small, intimate property which should provide guests with a fantastic safari experience.
