A few weeks before the arrival of ATX Jr., Mrs. ATX and I decided we needed a little weekend getaway. We quickly settled on Fredericksburg, a city in the Texas hill country known for its wineries and German heritage. We found the Main Street Bed and Breakfast which was conveniently located in the heart of downtown.
Booking
When planning this trip we knew we wanted to stay in downtown Fredericksburg and Mrs. ATX wanted something “cute”. She told me no Marriotts or chain hotels so I did some searching in a different way, via Google Maps.
I used the hotels filter in Google Maps to find a few properties in the area we wanted to stay and ultimately decided on the Main Street Bed and Breakfast. It was well priced and located right on main street near the heart of Downtown Fredericksburg. We booked our room via the hotel’s website for $118 including taxes and fees for our one night stay.
Main Street Bed and Breakfast Location
Main Street Bed and Breakfast is, you guessed it, located on Main Street in Fredericksburg. The hotel is directly across from the National Museum of the Pacific War.
Storefronts line the Main Street side of the building and the bed and breakfast office is located at the side of the building along the driveway.
Free parking for guests is located in a small lot at the rear of the building.
Check-In
When we arrived early on Saturday afternoon and found the office to be closed. A sign on the door had information and instructed us to locate our room key in the adjacent mailbox. Our parking pass and property information was also located in the envelope.
Main Street Bed and Breakfast Room
As the directions indicated, our room was located on the second floor which could be accessed via an exterior staircase. There was one long hallway and our room, 208, was the first room on the right.
Upon entering the room, you immediately find yourself in the bedroom. It’s worth noting that each room on the property is somewhat different. A king sized bed flanked by nightstands was on the left.
A pair of mismatched lamps were sitting atop the nightstands. There was also a small bench against the wall next to the door. This was great for putting on shoes or storing luggage.
Across from the bed was a buffet that had a mini-refrigerator and freezer, microwave, and a set of drawers.
On top of the buffet was a coffeemaker and a variety of glassware, silverware, and dishes. While far from a kitchenette, it was slightly above what you’d get in a standard hotel room.
Next to the buffet was a dining table with a TV mounted on the wall above. The TV was small but we spent most of our time out exploring downtown Fredericksburg so it wasn’t an issue.
A sliding set of glass doors separates the bedroom from the bathroom. The doors didn’t provide much privacy as the glass was clear.
In the bathroom the vanity was directly ahead. It had a good amount of counter space and storage underneath.
On the right is a massive, two-person soaking tub with a large tile surround.
To the left of the sink the shower and a small alcove which housed the toilet. The shower was large but was quite odd due to the fact that there wasn’t a shelf of a basket for toiletries anywhere in the shower.
Breakfast
As part of your stay, a free breakfast is offered each morning. It is brought to the room between 9:00a-9:15a each morning and served wrapped and on a tray. It featured eggs, sausage, a biscuit, butter, and jam.
Main Street Bed and Breakfast Grounds
The Main Street Bed and Breakfast has two primary public spaces. The first is a balcony located at the end of the second floor hallway. This covered space has a few tables and overlooks Fredericksburg’s Main Street.
The main public space is the pool area, located behind the building on the first floor. Groupings of lounge chairs and a patio table surround the pool area.
Groupings of lounge chairs and a patio table surround the pool area. The weather was cool and rainy during our visit so we didn’t see many people using this space. Though I could see it being popular on a hot summer day.
A covered hot tub is located in the corner of the pool area, closest to the building. Some dirt had settled into the bottom of the hot tub from previous guests but it was otherwise clean.
Summary
Fredericksburg and the surrounding Texas Hill Country has become extremely popular in recent years. Because of this, room rates in town can rise to astronomically high prices as demand outpaces supply. Since we only live an hour away and we were only looking to get away for a night, we found Main Street to perfectly fit our needs.
The property had comfortable rooms, a great location right along Main Street, and apalletable price for a quick getaway. Main Street Bed and Breakfast isn’t the most luxurious property in town, there’s no spa, restaurant, fitness center, etc. but our goal for this trip was to get out and explore. We will definitely be returning to Fredericksburg and will give Main Street a look on our next trip.
Thanks for the B&B review Mr. ATX. We’re always looking for a reasonably priced weekend getaway. We’ll give Main Street B&B a try.
Happy to help!
