LOT Polish Airlines, the flag carrier of Poland, has just unveiled the new interior for its upcoming fleet of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The airline currently has 13 aircraft on order with deliveries expected to begin by year end.
LOT Polish Will Install Recaro R2 Seats on New Narrowbody Aircraft
LOT Polish Airlines has taken delivery of the first shipment of Recaro R2 seats that will be installed on the carriers Boeing 737 MAX and Airbus A220 aircraft. In total, the airline plans to take delivery of roughly 14,000 of these seats, all of which will be manufactured in Poland. These are the same seats you’ll find on some Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines Boeing 737s.

Michał Fijoł, CEO of LOT Polish Airlines, said this about the new seats:
“LOT’s decision to equip its new aircraft with RECARO seats was driven by a commitment to passenger comfort, durability, and quality. An added benefit is the fact that the seats are produced in Poland. Manufacturing in Świebodzin directly supports local jobs and serves as a strong example of international collaboration with local impact.”
The new seats will feature USB-A and USB-C seatback charging along with a personal device holder that will be able to support most tablets and cell phones. The seats will also have adjustable headrests and adjustable tray tables.

The interiors of the new Boeing 737 MAXs and Airbus A220s have been inspired by the new Polonez Business Class lounges thar are currently open in Warsaw and Chicago. These narrowbody upgrades are expected to carry over to the airline’s fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners as they receive comprehensive interior upgrades.

While the interior looks great, the seats appear to be very thin. This is something we’ve seen more and more as carriers look to save space and squeeze more seats on airplanes. Thankfully, LOT plans to use its 737s and A220s on short to medium haul routes so passengers shouldn’t have to sit in these seats for too long.
Have you flown on an aircraft with Recaro R2 seats? If so, what are your thoughts?

I’m pretty used to them as I fly Alaska a fair amount. They’re thin but they’re all right, even on a transcon SFO-JFK flight. I’d say pretty average seat comfort.
