LOT Polish Airlines Announces San Francisco (SFO) Service

LOT Polish Airlines, the flag carrier of Poland, is launching a new route between Warsaw and San Francisco. The carrier has been expanding rapidly in the United States in recent years, having just opened a new lounge at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). San Francisco will join Chicago (ORD), New York (JFK), Newark (EWR), Miami (MIA), and Los Angeles (LAX) in the airline’s network.

LOT Polish Launching Flights Between San Francisco and Warsaw

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) will become the newest destination for LOT customers when flights launch on May 6, 2026 from the carrier’s hub at Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW).

This destination doesn’t come as much of a surprise as San Francisco is a major hub for fellow Star Alliance member United Airlines. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see the carrier add Washington D.C. and Houston service in the coming years.

Robert Ludera, Registered Representative and Director of the Network Department at LOT Polish Airlines, said this about the introduction of service to San Francisco:

“Transatlantic flights are of strategic importance for LOT Polish Airlines. In the past 12 months, 800,000 passengers travelled on all LOT flights between Poland and the United States. Not only will the new route connect the heart of Europe with the global hub for technology and innovation, but it will also open up new opportunities for both business travelers and tourists. San Francisco, along with neighboring Silicon Valley, is the cradle of numerous global brands and a location that consistently attracts entrepreneurs and investors from around the world. It is also a city of exceptional charm, rich in culture, history and unique vibe, which has enjoyed unflagging popularity among tourists for years. We are delighted to expand our offer with a successive direct flight to the west coast of the United States and invite passengers to join us on our flights.”

JetBlue and United are planning to enter into a partnership that will allow better connectivity and reciprocal frequent flyer earnings.
Fellow Star Alliance member United Airlines operates a large hub at San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

The route is scheduled to operate 4x weekly using Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. LOT Polish has these aircraft configured with 18 Business Class, 21 Premium Economy, and 213 Economy seats. Business class on these jets features a 2-2-2 layout, so far from cutting edge, though the seats are lie-flay.

The flight will operate on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The schedule for the flight depends on which day of the week you’re flying. The timing differences here are quote drastic so I’d be curious as to why the carrier is operating the flights in this manner. The 5,867 mile flight is blocked at 11h 15m eastbound and 11h 35m westbound.

On Wednesdays and Saturdays, the flights will operate on the following schedule:

FlightDepartsArrives
LO35 (WAW-SFO)5:40p8:15p
LO36 (SFO-WAW)10:15p6:30p (+1)

On Thursdays and Sundays, the flights will operate on the following schedule:
