JetBlue is Selling SAF Credits That Count Towards Mosaic Status

2024 is rapidly coming to an end which means many of us are scrambling to re-qualify for our loyalty status, or shifting our status targets entirely, for 2025. JetBlue announced today that its offering an opportunity for TrueBlue and Mosaic customers to earn tiles towards perks and status.

From now until December 31, 2024, JetBlue customers who make qualifying contributions toward sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) through this link will earn 1 tile for every $100 spent. Customers can combine these SAF contributions with other qualifying JetBlue travel spend to reach their next tile.

JetBlue has placed an increasing focus on the use of SAF in recent years with the carrier partnering with climate tech company Chooose to offer customers a platform for estimating their share of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from flying and taking steps to address them. Customers’ SAF contributions through Chooose go directly to a fund dedicated to covering the cost premium of SAF as compared to conventional jet fuel.

Sara Bogdan, Managing Director, Sustainability at JetBlue, had this to say about the partnership with Chooose and the ability to earn status:

“As we enter our sixth year of flying with SAF, we are now making it even easier (and rewarding) for customers to join us in our efforts. Whether you’re celebrating a great year of travel, or planning ahead for next year, we’re inviting you to partner with us to help address the carbon emissions caused by flying through contributions to sustainable aviation fuel.”

Here’s how it works:

  • Each $100 spent will earn TrueBlue Members 1 tile.
  • 89.69% of the Contributions will be allocated towards JetBlue for the purchase of SAF and/or blended SAF products.
  • A service and technology fee, equivalent to 10.31%, will be paid to Chooose. This fee is included in the total Contributions and does not contribute towards the purchase of SAF.
  • TrueBlue members can earn up to 10 tiles with SAF contributions (up to a limit of $1,000).
  • TrueBlue members can combine SAF spend with other qualifying JetBlue travel spend to reach their next tile.
  • Contributions are non-refundable.
  • Tiles earned will be administered by the end of January 2025.
  • Status and perks earned will apply until the end of 2025.

JetBlue SAF contributions could be an easy way to top off your loyalty balance at the end of 2024.

Personally, I don’t but into the SAF offsets and things of that nature. If the fuel is more costly, but the airline is using it, that is likely baked into the price of the ticket. However, this could be a good option for passengers needing a last minute top up to reach another Mosaic tier. Living in Austin, I don’t fly JetBlue but this could make sense for others who regularly fly with the airline.

Summary

JetBlue is offering customers the opportunity to top off their TrueBlue accounts and Mosaic statuses through qualifying contributions toward sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). While this may be of limited use, its an easy way to add some tiles to your account without flying between now and the end of the year.
