JetBlue officially launched flights to the Caribbean island of Bonaire today. The flights operate 2x weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Bonaire’s Flamingo International Airport (BON).
This service was first announced back in May and is the only route between JFK and Bonaire and gives JetBlue passengers access to all three of the ABC Islands, the Dutch Caribbean’s Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao, as well as to St. Maarten. United does serve the island from its hub at nearby Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
The introduction of service to Bonaire comes as JetBlue looks to reinvent itself with a focus on leisure and VFR (visiting friends and relatives) routes, as part of its JetForward strategy. According to the airline, Bonaire will be the 34th destination in Latin America and the Caribbean served from New York-JFK this winter. This is more than any other carrier at the airport.
The flights will operate on the following schedule using Airbus A320 aircraft featuring 162 Economy and Even More Space seats:
New York-JFK to Bonaire (BON)
B6 1643 Departs: 7:00a Arrives: 12:38p
Bonaire (BON) to New York-JFK
B6 1644 Departs: 2:14p Arrives: 6:00p
David Jehn, Vice President of Network Planning and Airline Partnerships at JetBlue, had this to say about the new service:
“Renowned for its natural beauty, pristine beaches, and warm hospitality, we are excited to launch service to Bonaire, introducing a new destination and more travel options to our customers looking for a Caribbean getaway. Expanding our service in the Caribbean demonstrates our commitment to continue providing our customers exceptional travel options and experiences while promoting tourism and accessibility.”
To celebrate today’s launch, for a limited time, travelers can take advantage of special $99 one-way fares for flights between New York-JFK and Bonaire (BON) by booking via jetblue.com.
Summary
JetBlue has launched new, 2x weekly, service between New York-JFK and the island of Bonaire. The addition of this route makes JetBlue the only airline with direct service between the two destinations and helps bolster its leisure and VFR flying from its focus city at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
