JetBlue Expands Presence in Mexico with Flights to Tulum (TQO)

JetBlue became the most recent airline to begin service to Tulum’s Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport (TQO). The carrier began service today with a daily roundtrip flight between Tulum and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). In addition to Tulum, JetBlue also serves the Mexican resort towns of Cancun (CUN) and Los Cabos (SJD).

JetBlue Begins Flying to Tulum’s New Airport

David Jehn, JetBlue’s vice president of network planning and airline partnerships, had this to say about the launch of the new route:

“As the only airline with direct service from New York’s JFK to Tulum, we are thrilled to offer our customers our award-winning service, low fares, and another option when traveling to the Mexican Caribbean. JetBlue began service to Mexico more than 17 years ago with flights from New York to Cancun and we’re proud to expand our footprint in Mexico.”

Tulum, located southwest of Playa del Carmen and Cancun, has exploded in popularity in recent years thanks to the health-centric resorts and retreats, captivating archaeological ruins, and natural sinkholes and cenotes. The launch of the JFK-Tulum route is one of many new international destinations the airline is serving or planning to serve. By the end of 2024, JetBlue will serve 40 international destinations from Europe to South America.

Tulum’s new airport, opened on December 1st, 2023, makes it easier for travelers to reach the beaches of Tulum by allowing them to avoid the busy Cancun International Airport (CUN) and cutting 45 minutes to an hour off of the travel time.

JetBlue is operating their Tulum service using Airbus A320 aircraft featuring free fly-fi (wi-fi), seatback IFE, and a range of complimentary snacks and drinks. The flight will operate on the following schedule:

New York (JFK) – Tulum (TQO)
B6 2879 Departs: 8:00a Arrives: 11:15a

Tulum (TQO) – New York (JFK)
B6 2880 Departs: 12:45p Arrives: 5:49p

JetBlue’s Tulum Flights Complement Existing Cancun Service

The airline’s launch of Tulum service compliments their robust service from Cancun. JetBlue serves Cancun from Boston (BOS), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), New York-JFK, Newark (EWR), Orlando (MCO), Raleigh/Durham (RDU), and Tampa (TPA).

Cancun International Airport is located 75 miles northeast of Tulum and is the primary airport for Quintana Roo and the Riviera Maya. Tulum’s new airport is located 25 miles west from the hotel zone by car.

Andrés Martínez Reynoso, the Director of the Quintana Roo Tourism Board which covers both Cancun and Tulum, had this to say about the new service:
