Blue Sky Takes Flight: JetBlue and United Partnership Now Live

After months of speculation, JetBlue and United announced their Blue Sky partnership in May 2025. The two airlines received DOT approval for the tie-up in July and, as of October 23, 2025, the partnership is officially underway.

Reciprocal Points Earnings and Redemptions are now Live

As of October 23, 2025, the first portion of the Blue Sky partnership is underway. JetBlue True Blue members can earn and redeem points on flights across United’s network, including United Express.

United MileagePlus members can earn and redeem miles on most flights across the JetBlue network, though there are some limitations. Some JetBlue routes are not eligible for MileagePlus accrual and redemption. This appears to be limited to some JetBlue leisure routes from Newark, where United has a large hub, and on discounted Mint Business Class fares.

Customers can now find JetBlue and United flights when searching either carrier’s website using points or miles. Though, unfortunately, you can’t transfer points between the two airlines. In a joint statement, the carriers said:

“With reciprocal earning and redemption now available, Blue Sky is officially taking flight. We’re excited to give our loyalty members the ability to use the program of their choice when traveling across our complementary networks.”

Earning and Redeeming JetBlue True Blue Points on United

JetBlue True Blue members can now earn points and tiles (for Mosaic status qualification) when traveling on United. Passengers must book directly with United and enter their True Blue number on the reservation.

TrueBlue members can earn five points per dollar spent on United flights. True Blue members with Mosaic status can earn an additional three points per dollar spent. Points are awarded based on the base airfare price along with carrier-imposed surcharges. Taxes and fees don’t count.

To redeem True Blue points for travel on United, you’ll need to book directly with JetBlue and select the book with points option. While United has significantly limited the award space that it releases to partners, any available United Airlines flights will be shown in the booking options.

Earning and Redeeming United MileagePlus Miles on JetBlue

United MileagePlus members can now earn miles when traveling on JetBlue. Passengers must book directly with JetBlue and enter their MileagePlus number on the reservation.

MileagePlus members can earn five miles per dollar spent on JetBlue and MileagePlus elites can earn between 7 and 11 points per dollar spent depending on their elite status tier. Miles are awarded based on the base airfare price along with carrier-imposed surcharges. Taxes and fees don’t count.

As I mentioned above, there are a few routes that aren’t eligible for earnings. MileagePlus members can’t earn miles on JetBlue flights to/from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and the following destinations:

  • Aruba (AUA)
  • Cancun (CUN)
  • Los Angeles (LAX)
  • Las Vegas (LAS)
  • Punta Cana (PUJ)

To redeem United MileagePlus miles for travel on JetBlue, you’ll need to book directly with United and select the book with points option. Award availability appears to be limited at this time but, I’m hopeful that more will be loaded in the future.

What’s Next for the Partnership?

Now that reciprocal points earnings and redemptions have been rolled out, the two carriers can focus on the next phases of their partnership. Over the next couple of years, customers can expect:

  • Revenue Bookings: Beginning in the first quarter of 2026, customers will have the ability to book itineraries on either airline using cash or miles/points.
  • Reciprocal Perks and Benefits: In early 2026 customers will get reciprocal elite perks like priority boarding, preferred and extra legroom seating, and same-day standby and flight changes.
  • MileagePlus Travel Transition to Paisly: In early 2026, United’s MileagePlus Travel which offers options for hotels, rental cars, cruises, packages and travel insurance will be powered by JetBlue’s wholly owned travel product company, Paisly.
  • United Returns to JFK: As early as 2027, United will return to New York JFK via access to slots for up to seven daily roundtrips from JetBlue’s new Terminal 6.

While the rollout of their partnership will be completed in 2026, United won’t begin serving New York JFK until 2027.

JetBlue TrueBlue members can find more information at via JetBlue.com. United MileagePlus members can find more information on united.com.

Summary

Though the Blue Skies partnership is far from rolled out, this is an exciting first step for United and JetBlue. While the reciprocal points and miles earnings are roughly what I would have expected, the real benefits will come with reciprocal perks and benefits in early 2026.

Hopefully we see the award availability open up a bit but, thanks to the Blue Sky partnership, I may be taking my first JetBlue flight soon.
