A few weeks after our amazing babymoon trip to the Czech Republic, Norway, and Sweden, we were off on another adventure. Mrs. ATX had to head out to the Bay Area for a week for work and was kind enough to let me tag along.
Booking Flights
By the time this trip got finalized, prices were already sky high. Instead of flying out of Austin, during the weekend of SxSW, we decided to drive up to Dallas and leave our dog with Mrs. ATX’s parents.
Thanks to a combination of price, timing, and airline loyalty, I ended up booking two one way flights. The first was a flight in American Airlines Boeing 737-800 Economy from Dallas/Ft. Worth (DFW) to San Jose (SJC) for $322.
For the return flight, I needed to be able to work a full day on the west coast before flying home. American’s last direct flight from SJC to DFW left around 2:00 so I ended up booking out of SFO. Since United is my primary domestic airline, they were the favorite and I booked my return flight in United Airlines Airbus A320 Economy for $319 from San Francisco (SFO) to Dallas/Ft. Worth (DFW).
I had a $160 flight credit for United which I used to offset the $249 buy up to first class on the return flight.
Booking Lodging
Since we were in California for Mrs. ATX’s work, staying close to her office was the most important aspect in our planning. I’m a couple years away from Marriott Bonvoy Lifetime Platinum so we started by looking on Marriott.com.
Two Marriott hotels were co-located walking distance from her office and we had to choose between the TETRA Hotel, Autograph Collection and the AC Hotel by Marriott Sunnyvale Moffett Park. When we were booking there wasn’t a drastic premium between the two and we booked the TETRA Hotel for $385 a night. For reference, the adjacent AC was $322 a night.
Thanks for tagging along on this quick and easy trip out to the San Francisco Bay Area!
