Fly PLAY, an Icelandic ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) born out of the remnants of WOW Air, has ceased all operations effective immediately.
Fly PLAY Ceases All Operations
As of September 29, 2025, Icelandic ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) Fly PLAY, has ceased all operations. In a statement posted to the carrier’s website, it states that they are deeply sorry for the disruption this causes and thanked passengers for their understanding.

The airline has advised passengers to search for flights with other airlines, noting that some carriers may offer special “rescue fares” considering the circumstances. In addition, PLAY provided the following information around refunds and passenger rights:
- If you purchased your ticket with a payment card, please contact your card issuer regarding a refund.
- If you booked your ticket as part of a package (flight + accommodation or services) through a travel agency in the EEA, please contact your travel agent for assistance.
- Some rights may also apply under EU Air Passenger regulations. In case of bankruptcy, claims should be directed to the appointed administrator.
PLAY was the second attempt by a ULCC, after the aforementioned WOW Air, to try and replicate Icelandair’s strategy of connecting North America and Europe via its Reykjavík (KEF) hub.
The carrier has been struggling financially for some time and had already cut all of its routes to the United States prior to today’s announcement. At the time that it ceased operations, the airline operated a fleet of 10 narrowbody Airbus aircraft, 6 A320neos and 4 A321neos, making it one of the youngest fleets globally.
Summary
Fly PLAY, an Icelandic ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) has ceased all operations as of September 29, 2025. This is the second failed ULCC looking to use Iceland as a connecting point for passengers between North America and Europe.
