Hawaiian Airlines, and parent company Alaska, announced that a new, premium lounge is coming to its Honolulu hub. The new lounge is expected to open in late 2027 and will be located in Terminal 1 of Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL). The premium lounge will offer a modern, island-inspired experience for Hawaiian and Alaska Airlines customers.
The lounge will be located at the entrance of the Mauka Concourse in Terminal 1 and will be five times larger than the airline’s existing lounge in Honolulu. The current Hawaiian lounge is roughly 3,000 square feet so this will be a much needed improvement.
Todd Traynor-Corey, Vice President of Guest Products & Experience at Alaska Airlines, had this to say about the upcoming lounge:
“We are reimagining the travel experience with spaces that showcase our dedication to guest satisfaction and the unique culture of Hawai‘i. Our new Honolulu lounge will be the first-of-its-kind within this space and will offer a modern oasis for our guests to enjoy.”
The first design concepts, which have not yet been finalized are said to be inspired by Hawaii’s rich natural elements, include intentional areas of surprise, organic forms, and tactile discovery. Once opened, the lounge will offer access to both Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines guests. More details, including final design and guest access, will be shared by the airline at a later date.
Hawaiian’s upcoming lounge in Honolulu is the latest enhancement aimed at delivering a superior airport guest experience across the Hawaiian Islands. Recently, the airline opened its second Premier Club at Maui’s Kahului Airport (OGG) and is planning additional investments in its neighboring island lounges.
While the new lounge is a major upgrade for Alaska and Hawaiian passengers, the press release from Alaska regarding a Hawaiian Airlines lounge felt off. Alaska has indicated that they plan to operate the combined carrier with two separate brands but, I’m already seeing confusion creep in. Maybe the airline should revive the Western Pacific name.
Summary
Hawaiian Airlines is opening a new, premium, lounge in Honolulu in late 2027. The new space will provide much needed lounge capacity as it will be five times larger than the current lounge. It will also be utilized by Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines passengers.
