Edelweiss Air, the leisure and charter oriented sister airline of Swiss International Air Lines, announced today that it is launching flights between Zurich Airport (ZRH) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA).
Service between Zurich and Seattle will operate 2x weekly for the Summer of 2025. The flights will operate on Mondays and Saturdays from June to September utilizing Airbus A340 aircraft. Flights are blocked at 10h 50m westbound and 10h 20m eastbound and will operate on the following schedule:
- WK6 (ZRH-SEA) Departs: 1:00p Arrives: 2:50p
- WK7 (SEA-ZRH) Departs: 4:25p Arrives: 11:45a (+1)
Edelweiss’ Airbus A340s featuring 76 Premium Economy, 27 Business Class, and 211 Economy seats. If you’re wondering why I wrote it that way, its because the airline has a unique layout on its A340s. Edelweiss puts Premium Economy ahead of Business Class which is quite odd.
In launching the service, Edelweiss will become the only airline with nonstop service between Zurich and the Pacific Northwest.
Switzerland is one of my favorite countries in the world so I’m excited to see another U.S. destination connected directly to the country. Mrs. ATX and I recently flew Swiss Business Class between New York and Zurich and found ourselves underwhelmed, so don’t expect too much from the leisure arm of the airline. With tempered expectations it will likely be a perfectly pleasant flight.
Also in the announcement, Edelweiss stated that they are planning to launch another Summer seasonal route between Zurich and Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) in Nova Scotia. That route will operate 2x weekly on on Thursdays and Sundays from July to the beginning of October using Airbus A340-300 aircraft.
Both flights are currently on sale at flyedelweiss.com.
Summary
Edelweiss Air, the leisure and charter sister airline to Swiss International Air Lines, is launching seasonal service between Zurich and Seattle next summer. Though the route will only operate for a few months, it will provide travelers in the Pacific Northwest direct access to Switzerland twice a week.
