Delta Unveils New Summer 2025 Transatlantic Routes

Delta Air Lines unveiled its new 2025 Summer transatlantic routes today and it’s quite the increase! The Atlanta based carrier is scheduled to launch its largest-ever transatlantic summer schedule with new routes to seven cities. In addition to the new routes, Delta plans to increase service on many more.

The announcement features increases from many of the carrier’s key hubs including New York-JFK, Atlanta (ATL), Boston (BOS), Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP), and Detroit (DTW). The announcement comes two weeks after American Airlines announced its Summer 2025 international additions with five new routes to Europe.

Joe Esposito, Delta’s Senior Vice President of Network Planning, had this to say about the new schedule: “With over 700 weekly flights to 33 European destinations and beyond, we’re expanding access to key cities like Barcelona and Dublin with new routes, while introducing our first-ever nonstop service to Catania, Sicily. We’ve also recently opened a stunning Delta One Lounge at JFK, with more to come at LAX, BOS, and SEA. Alongside the rollout of free international Wi-Fi and increased premium seating across our fleet, we’re ensuring our customers enjoy the best in connectivity and comfort from the moment they arrive at the airport to when they touch down.” 

The new routes should be extremely pleasant for passengers, especially those traveling in premium cabins thanks to the introduction of Delta One specific lounges (the New York-JFK lounge is already in operation with more to follow in Boston, Los Angeles, and Seattle) and free international Wi-Fi for all passengers.

Delta Focuses on Italy

Unsurprisingly there is a large focus on Italy in this announcement. Delta’s partner ITA Airways is likely transitioning over to Star Alliance as they are being purchased by the Lufthansa Group. Delta is adding four new routes to Catania (CTA), Naples (NAP), Rome (FCO), and Milan (MXP), positioning it as the largest U.S. carrier in the Italy market.

Vincenzo Bellini Catania Airport (CTA) is a new destination for the airline while the other three routes will compliment existing service. These new routes will operate using the following frequencies and equipment:

Delta is adding Catania, Sicily as the carrier’s newest European Destination.

Additional European Routes

In addition to the four new routes to Italy, Delta is adding three more transatlantic routes in Europe. The carrier is adding new routes to Barcelona (BCN), Brussels (BRU), and Dublin (DUB). All three of these destinations are currently served via other Delta hubs. These new routes will operate using the following frequencies and equipment:

On top of these seven new routes, Delta is also expanding frequencies on existing transatlantic routes including:

  • Atlanta (ATL) – Athens (ATH): 11x Weekly (up from 7x)
  • Atlanta (ATL) – Barcelona (BCN): 10x Weekly (up from 7x)
  • Atlanta (ATL) – Rome (FCO): 10x Weekly (up from 7x)
  • Atlanta (ATL) – Zurich (ZRH) and Detroit (DTW) – Munich (MUC) both increase to daily service. This also helps explain why Delta cut its JFK-MUC seasonal service for Summer of 2025.

The carrier is also not bringing back its seasonal Atlanta (ATL) to Stuttgart (STR) service for 2025.

Summary

Delta Air Lines has announced its Summer 2025 schedule which includes seven new transatlantic routes to new and existing destinations. While the route announcements don’t represent anything groundbreaking, it is interesting to see how the airline is moving capacity around its East Coast hubs
