Delta Continues to Build in Austin

Delta has been building up quite a robust operation in Austin over the last year and a half. Initially, it operated routes to Delta hubs and focus cities but that all changed when the carrier announced nonstop routes from Austin to McAllen, Midland/Odessa, and Nashville.

Delta is continuing its growth in Austin, adding new routes and shifting capacity to meet the needs of travelers in Central Texas.

Ever since that initial announcement, and American Airlines’ closure of its Austin focus city, Delta has continued to add new destinations from the Central Texas airport to cities like Harlingen, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Tampa among others.

The vast majority of these routes are operated by Delta’s regional partner SkyWest using Embraer E175 aircraft. These regional jets have roughly 76 seats making them much more economically feasible on routes like this. SkyWest has opened a crew base in Austin to support all of the extra flying from the airport.

With the launch of service to Palm Springs, Delta and its reginal partners will serve 25 destinations from the Texas capitol. Service to Harlingen will be eliminated on June 7, 2025, with Delta consolidating it’s southern Texas operations at McAllen International Airport (MFE).
