Delta is Launching Flights Between Austin and New Orleans

Delta Air Lines is launching flights between Austin and New Orleans beginning in February 2025. The Atlanta based carrier will connect Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) with double-daily service. Regional partner SkyWest, which just opened a crew base in Austin, will operate the flights under the Delta Connection brand.

New Orleans is the latest in a slew of new destinations being added by the carrier from Austin. In recent months Delta has added service to Midland/Odessa, McAllen, Nashville, and Harlingen from Austin. The carrier also serves all of its hubs and focus cities from the Texas capital.

The new flights are scheduled to begin on February 27th and will operate on the following schedule:

Austin (AUS) to New Orleans (MSY)
DL 4016 Departs: 8:00a Arrives: 9:35a
DL 3970 Departs: 3:00p Arrives: 4:35p

New Orleans (MSY) to Austin (AUS)
DL 4016 Departs: 10:15a Arrives: 11:50a
DL 3970 Departs: 5:15p Arrives: 6:50p

Delta Connection partner SkyWest will deploy Embraer E175 aircraft on the route.

The launch of this new route from Delta comes as American Eagle is eliminating its twice-daily service between Austin and New Orleans. The route is already well served with Southwest operating it up to 5x daily.

While an official announcement hasn’t been made, tickets are available for purchase at Delta.com.

New Orleans will be Delta’s 17th destination from Austin.

Summary

Delta is continuing to expand its operation at an already overcrowded Austin airport with the addition of new flights to New Orleans. This will become the carrier’s 17th destination from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport as they continue to build up quite the presence in the Texas capital.

Personally, I’m excited to see this new route launch as I travel between the two cities a few times a year. I’m interested to see how Southwest responds now that Delta is in the market. American clearly didn’t see a path to profitability on the route as they are eliminating their flights this fall.
