It should come as no surprise to anyone that has transited the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport recently but, the airport is as busy as ever. As the airport works to expand gates on the west side of the Barbara Jordan Terminal and prepares to begin construction on a new midfield concourse, a new, exciting, development is coming to the east side of the terminal.
As reported by View from the Wing, Chase will be opening a new Sapphire Terrace on March 20, 2023. The Sapphire Terrace will be different from a traditional lounge as the majority of the space will be outdoors, taking over the deck that was previously open to the public. The space is expected to have complimentary local alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic drinks, grab and go food, as well as games like shuffleboard. It is expected to be open from 10:00a-8:00p daily. The Sapphire Terrace will be located between Gates 1 and 2, near the entrance to the Delta Sky Club.
Unlike the Chase Sapphire Lounges that are being opened by The Club, the Sapphire Terrace will not be eligible for those using Priority Pass. The only way to access the terrace will be with a Chase Sapphire Reserve card. CSR cardholders can also bring two guests.
It is exciting to see Austin getting a lounge concept that isn’t tied to one of the major airlines as currently they only have a United Club, Delta Sky Club and an Admirals Lounge. Selfishly, I was hoping to see an American Express Centurion Lounge or a Priority Pass lounge as I am not a CSR cardholder.
With the number of people living in and traveling through Austin, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this thing stay fairly full even without the Priority Pass tie in.
