Cathay Pacific, the flag carrier of Hong Kong, has unveiled a gorgeous new retro livery as part of its 80th anniversary celebrations.
Cathay Pacific Outfits Airbus A350-900 with Iconic ‘Lettuce Leaf Sandwich’ Livery
To kick off the 80th anniversary celebrations, Cathay Pacific has painted a new special livery on one of its Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The livery pays homage to the airline’s much loved green and white striped paint scheme that adorned its aircraft from 1971 to 1994.
Known as the ‘lettuce leaf sandwich’ livery, the airline will unveil a second plane in the special paint scheme on one of its’s Boeing 747 freighters in the coming weeks.

While I wasn’t old enough to see any aircraft in this livery flying in person, I have seen plenty of photos and videos from planes doing the famous Kai Tak turn. For me, having the chance to see this jet flying in real life is something very cool.
Another cool aspect of the carrier’s 80th anniversary was unveiled at the event. Cathay Pacific is also working on a curated collection of merchandise inspired by the special liveries and iconic designs from different eras in the airline’s history. Based on photos from the unveiling, this will range from model airplanes to watches and more.

While I certainly won’t be springing for a Cathay Pacific themed Breitling watch, the model A350 would look great on my desk. More information on the collection and additional 80th anniversary merchandise will be released at a later date.
