Alaska Airlines is expanding their partnership with fellow oneworld alliance member British Airways. Alaska travelers can now purchase nonstop flights to London directly at alaskaair.com. Passengers can buy British Airways flights between Alaska’s gateway airports in Seattle (SEA), Portland (PDX), San Francisco (SFO), Los Angeles (LAX) and San Diego (SAN) as well as Chicago (ORD) and New York JFK.
Alaska Sees Strong Demand to London
London is one of the most searched-for international destinations on Alaska’s website, with service between Seattle and London being one of the most in-demand routes for Alaska passengers in the Pacific Northwest.
Andrew Harrison, Alaska’s Chief Commercial Officer, had this to say about the expanded partnership:
“We’re excited to add our longstanding partner, British Airways, to our growing portfolio of alaskaair.com book direct airlines. London is one the most requested global gateways by our guests and no one serves it better than British Airways and the oneworld alliance.”
Andrew Harrison, Chief Commercial Officer Alaska Airlines
British Airways offers quite a few flights to London from Alaska’s West Coast gateways. The following flights and routes are available for purchase through alaskaair.com on flights beginning June 18th.
- Seattle (two daily flights)
- Portland (daily flight)
- San Francisco (two daily flights)
- Los Angeles (three daily flights)
- San Diego (two daily flights)
- Chicago (three daily flights)
- New York JFK (eight daily flights)
Future Connectivity is on the Horizon
A small line item in the press release is likely going to have the greatest benefit to Alaska, and British Airways, passengers. Starting later this year, passengers will be able to purchase Alaska flights connecting to British Airways, along with flights beyond London on British Airways.
It will be interesting to watch and see what new connecting itineraries will become available for Alaska passengers. Neil Chernoff, British Airways Chief Planning and Strategy Officer said this about the expansion:
“We are extending our partnership with our fellow oneworld member Alaska Airlines to offer travelers seamless access to British Airways flights to London directly at alaskaair.com. It will enhance the travel experience for our customers, providing convenient connections between London Heathrow and Alaska’s key gateway airports. We look forward to connecting even more travelers between the Pacific Northwest and the UK capital.”
Neil Chernoff, British Airways Chief Planning and Strategy Officer
Summary
For flights departing on June 18th and beyond, Alaska Airlines customers can book British Airways flights from seven U.S. destinations to London-Heathrow via the Alaska Website. As part of this expanded partnership, both airlines are also looking to provide additional connectivity before the end of the year.
This is NOT a good use of Alaska Air miles. Stick with AA US to UK or else you’ll pay huge taxes.
