BermudAir, the flag carrier of Bermuda, is doubling its fleet with the addition of two Embraer 190 aircraft. The carrier currently operates two Embraer 175 regional jets on routes between Bermuda and North America.
The addition of the new planes will more than double the carrier’s capacity as its E190s will be outfitted with 96 seats, its E175 aircraft are equipped with 70 seats onboard. These new aircraft will join BermudAir’s current fleet in Spring 2025. The new planes will allow the airline to fly further and carry more cargo as the E190’s range is roughly 1,000 miles more than the E175 and it can carry 2,209 more pounds.
BermudAir currently operates a fairly robust operation for an airline with only two planes. It flies from its hub at L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA) to seven airports in the United States and Canada and is preparing to launch flights to three more cities this year.
The carrier has provided some insights into how it plans to utilize its two new jets. In the press release, the airline indicated that the 3rd aircraft will be operated as a dedicated spare and on-demand charter aircraft, while the 4th will be used by the airline to increase frequencies to existing markets and to expand into additional markets.
Adam Scott, Founder and CEO of BermudAir, had this to say about the new aircraft:
“After just one year of establishing BermudAir, we are thrilled to take this next step in our journey. Adding these two Embraer 190 aircraft will allow us to grow thoughtfully while ensuring we maintain the high standards of reliability and service our customers have come to expect. This expansion will support our efforts to stabilize operations, create new opportunities for travel, and enhance the experience for everyone who flies BermudAir.”
Its interesting to see the growth trajectory of this quirky little carrier. The airline initially planned to operate in an all Business Class configuration, similar to JSX aircraft. before backtracking and offering a more traditional two-cabin layout. These new planes are joining the fleet as the airline passes the one-year mark so it would appear that things are going well. While I don’t have any plans to fly BermudAir anytime soon, I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on its growth.
Summary
BermudAir, the flag carrier of Bermuda, is doubling its fleet size after just a year in operation. The airline is adding larger Embraer 190 jets to its existing fleet of Embraer 175 regional jets with plans to increase frequencies and explore new destinations.
