Avelo Airlines Places Order for up to 100 Embraer E195-E2 Aircraft

Ultra low cost carrier (ULCC) Avelo Airlines is making a drastic change to its fleet plan with an order for up to 100 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft.

Avelo Makes $4.4 Billion Embraer Order

Avelo Airlines currently operates a fleet that consists exclusively of Boeing 737 aircraft. The carrier initially began operations with used Boeing 737-700 aircraft and the fleet has expanded to include the larger 737-800 as well. Now, the carrier is making a drastic change to its fleet by adding Embraer E195-E2 aircraft to the mix.

Avelo Airlines has placed an order for up to 100 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft.

The Houston based carrier has placed an order for up to 100 E195-E2s with 50 firm orders and 50 options. At current list price that places the order at roughly $4.4 Billion. With the order, Avelo will become the first U.S. based carrier to operate Embraer’s largest commercial aircraft.

In announcing the purchase, Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy said:

“We are thrilled to partner with Embraer and bring this best-in-class small narrowbody airplane to the United States marketplace.  Our customers will love the E2’s comfortable 2×2 seating, in-seat power ports, large overhead bins, and quiet cabin. The aircraft’s exceptional performance, size, and efficiency make it the perfect choice for the future growth of our scheduled service network. The airline industry in the United States is evolving, and the E2 fits perfectly with our vision for Avelo’s unique role in that evolution.”

Avelo expects that the smaller Embraer E195-E2 will allow it to grow in smaller markets, including airports that have short runways due to the jet’s excellent short field performance. The carrier has been modifying its route strategy over the past few months and I’m interested to see how it utilizes these aircraft. Aircraft deliveries are expected to begin in 2027.

I’ve had the opportunity to fly on the Embraer E195-E2, and it’s smaller E190-E2 sibling, and I found both flights to be enjoyable. The plane is quite comfortable and the 2-2 seating means no middle seats for passengers.

Have you flown on the E195-E2 and, if so, what are your thoughts on this order?

Summary

Avelo Airlines has placed a massive aircraft order with Embraer. The $4.4 Billion order is for up to 100 Embraer E195-E2 aircraft split between 50 firm orders and 50 options. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2027 and will make Avelo the first carrier in the United States to operate the aircraft.
