Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) continues to grow. While the focus in recent months has been on Delta and Southwest, American Airlines has just announced a major investment at the Central Texas Airport.
American Airlines is Opening A New Lounge in Austin
American Airlines has announced that it will open a brand new Admirals Club ain Austin. The new lounge will be located in the new western expansion of the Barbara Jordan Terminal (the airport’s primary, and soon to be only, terminal).
The new lounge will span roughly 12,000 square feet and will double the carrier’s lounge capacity in Austin. Construction on the lounge will begin later this year and is expected to be completed in the next couple of years. The current Admirals Club will remain open during the construction of the new space.

American has retreated in Austin over the last few years, with Delta and Southwest currently battling for supremacy, but it is nice to see the Fort Worth based carrier invest in the Texas capital.
For many years, American has been the strongest of the big three legacy carriers in Austin. While I’ve found that many of the younger residents are gravitating towards Delta, the fact of the matter is, most established Austinites have American as their carrier of choice. Because of that, it is great to see American investing in its lounge space in Austin.
The new lounge will feature American’s new lounge design and, in a first for the carrier, it will feature an outdoor terrace. This seems like a page out of Delta’s playbook as the Atlanta based carrier has made the SkyDeck a key feature of its lounges.

Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer, said this about the new Admirals Club in Austin:
“As we elevate our presence in Austin, we’re excited to bring a new level of comfort and hospitality to our customers. This new Admirals Club® lounge will reflect the vibrant spirit of Austin while offering the thoughtful design and premium amenities our customers expect.”
American currently offers almost 50 daily flights to 11 destinations at AUS, giving Central Texas customers easy access to more than 350 destinations around the world via its hubs.
