The Charlotte route will compliment American’s existing service from YQB to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD). The flight will operate on Saturdays until November 2nd using the following schedule:

  • AA 5223 (CLT-YQB) Departs: 9:00a Arrives: 11:49a
  • AA 5223 (YQB-CLT) Departs: 12:29p Arrives: 3:14p

Tickets for the route are currently on sale at AA.com.

In announcing the new route, José Freig, Vice President of International Operations, American Airlines, had this to say:

“We’re delighted to add service between Charlotte and Québec City, complementing flights from Philadelphia and Chicago to the beautiful Capitale-Nationale launched earlier this year. Our new weekly flight grants our customers from the U.S. the opportunity to explore the rich culture Québec City has to offer. We look forward to working closely again with our colleagues at Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport as we deliver another successful route for American.”

While I find it strange that the airline is only operating the route for a few months, I anticipate this becoming a seasonal route for the airline moving forward. That is assuming that the route does well though, thanks to its massive Charlotte hub. there are plenty of connecting opportunities.

I traveled to Quebec City in July of 2018, long before ATX Jetsetter was a thing, and had a fantastic time. I wouldn’t recommend visiting in the winter as it can be extremely cold and there likely isn’t much demand at that time so it makes sense that they wouldn’t want to operate this route year round. United is the only airline operating year round service between Quebec City and the United States via their Newark hub.

Summary

American Airlines continues to expand its regional operation in Charlotte, adding a weekly flight between the Queen City and Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB). The flight will operate using CRJ-900 aircraft on Saturdays through November 2nd.
