American Airlines is Launching Service Between Miami and Bimini

American Airlines announced today that it is launching service to Bimini, Bahamas, becoming the first carrier to offer nonstop, scheduled service to the island from the United States.

American Will Fly 3x Weekly Between Miami and Bimini

Flights between American Airlines’ hub at Miami International Airport (MIA) and South Bimini Airport (BIM) are scheduled to launch on February 14, 2026. Flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays using Embraer E175 regional jets operated by American’s regional subsidiary, Envoy Air, under the American Eagle banner.

Envoy Air will fly Embraer E175 aircraft on the route under the American Eagle brand.

The 64 mile route becomes the shortest flight by distance flown in the American Airlines system, knocking the Chicago (ORD)-Milwaukee (MKE) route from the top spot. Though the flying time is short, flights are blocked at an hour each direction and will operate on the following schedule:

AA 4108 (BIM-MIA)11:50a12:50pMon./Wed./Sat.

In announcing the new route, Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network Planning, said this:

“American knows that travelers are looking for unique and varied experiences, and that’s why we’ve added destinations like Bimini to our network. We recently announced new routes for travelers to explore unique architecture in Prague or Budapest or ski down exciting slopes in Sun Valley, and now we’re offering a new island option in the Bahamas.”

With only 3x weekly flights I’m interested to see the economics of this. Bimini is a relatively underserved airport with its only other scheduled service to Freeport and Nassau, both in The Bahamas. Most people visiting the island arrive by boat but, these new flights should open up the island to those connecting from further away.

According to American, the flights to and from Bimini are timed to allow passengers to connect to/from over eighty destinations via the airline’s Miami hub. Tickets for the route are currently available via AA.com or the American Airlines mobile app.

Summary

Starting in February 2026, American Airlines is launching 3x weekly service between Miami and Bimini. The route will operate 3x weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays and, at 64 miles, it will become the shortest route in the carrier’s network.
