American Airlines Adds its 30th Destination in Mexico

American Airlines announced today that it is launching service to Puerto Escondido (PXM), becoming the 30th destination in Mexico served by the airline. This further solidifies American’s commitment to the Mexican market as it operates more flights between the United States and Mexico than any other airline.

American’s newest destination in Mexico, Puerto Escondido, is located on the coast of Oaxaca and is known for its beaches and nightlife. From surfing and sunbathing to delectable seafood, American promises that Puerto Escondido has something for all kinds of travelers looking for a winter escape. José A. Freig, American’s Vice President of International, Contact Center Operations and Service Recovery, said this about the new service:

“With the announcement of American’s 30th destination in Mexico — Puerto Escondido — we further solidify our position as the leading U.S. airline in the country with an operation and network that is unmatched. Puerto Escondido is quickly becoming a top destination for travelers in search of tropical and relaxing getaways, and we are confident that our new service from Dallas-Fort Worth will offer our customers the opportunity to experience a unique part of Mexico.”

American will operate year-round service twice a week to PXM from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) on Wednesdays and Saturdays, on the 1,171 mile route beginning December 3, 2025. The airline plans to use Embraer E175 aircraft on the route which are outfitted with First Class (which will likely be branded as Business Class) and Economy seating.

American has a robust operation to Mexico from it’s primary hub at Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW), tapping into its American Eagle regional jets to connect many locations to the American Airlines network.

American also has frequent service to Mexico from hubs at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). American Airlines launched service to three destinations in Mexico in 2024: Tijuana (TIJ), Tulum (TQO), and Veracruz (VER), and added Tampico (TAM) flights earlier this year.

Summary

American Airlines is further solidifying itself as the carrier of choice between the United States and Mexico, launching service to its 30th destination in the country later this year. Last year, Mrs. ATX and I utilized American’s extensive route map to the country for a quick getaway to Los Cabos.
