Days after an Azerbaijan Airlines flight crashed in Kazakhstan, a Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 has crashed at Muan International Airport (MWX). The aircraft, registration HL8088, was operating as Jeju Air Flight 2216 from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) to Muan.
While the situation is still evolving, the aircraft appears to have performed a belly landing. It is unknown at this time why the plane landed without its gear down but, the lack of emergency vehicles near the runway indicates that this was unplanned.
Video captured on the ground shows the aircraft sliding on its belly down the runway before traveling off of the end of the runway and impacting runway lights before bursting into flames. The video is so surreal that at first I thought it was AI or CGI when I first saw it.
