A Delta One Lounge is Coming to Atlanta (ATL)

A day after Delta unveiled its newest Sky Club at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), there’s an even more exciting lounge development at Delta’s home airport. According to The Points Guy, Delta is planning to open one of its exclusive Delta One lounges at the airport!

Atlanta Will Get a Standalone Delta One Lounge

Claude Roussel, Delta’s Vice President of Delta Sky Club and Lounge Experience, confirmed to The Points Guy that the carrier is planning a new Delta One Lounge in Atlanta in the coming years.

Atlanta is Delta’s largest hub, and the busiest airport in the world, so it makes sense that the airline would eventually put a Delta One Lounge here. Though Atlanta is the busiest, given the entry requirements for Delta One Lounges, the carrier has focused on its international gateways first; opening lounges in Boston, Los Angeles, and New York. A fourth Delta One Lounge is under construction in Seattle and will open later this year.

Delta currently operates three Delta One Lounges with a fourth opening later this year in Seattle.

The lounge is expected to be a stand alone space and will be located in Concourse E or F, where the majority of Delta’s international flights depart. Personally, I’d expect to see the new lounge located in Concourse F as it is the newest of Atlanta’s seven concourses. This would also put it closer to International check-in which is located in Concourse F.

What Hubs Don’t Have Delta One Lounges

With the news that Atlanta will get a Delta One lounge, that leaves four Delta hubs without the exclusive lounge in the pipeline; Detroit (DTW), Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP), New York (LGA), and Salt Lake City (SLC).

Detroit seems like a no brainer to eventually get a Delta One lounge, given the amount of transpacific flying Delta does from the airport. While I wouldn’t think that MSP and SLC see enough international, premium heavy, service to warrant a standalone lounge, The Points Guy indicated that Delta plans to open a Delta One lounge in Salt Lake City and will likely expand to its other hubs.

Finally, New York’s LaGuardia Airport won’t be getting the Delta One treatment. Due to the perimeter rule at LGA, Delta only operates shorter flights from LaGuardia that don’t feature Delta One. The airline did just open a massive new Sky Club at LGA which I had the chance to visit last year.

Summary

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is getting a Delta One Lounge. Details are still scarce but it appears that the space will be located in Concourse E or F when it opens in the coming years. Delta is reportedly planning to open Delta One lounges at all hubs, aside from New York-LGA, in the future though Seattle is the only one with a confirmed timeline.
