Avelo Airlines Announces its Largest Ever Route Expansion

Avelo Airlines announced its largest route expansion in company history earlier this week. The Houston, Texas based carrier is adding 18 new nonstop routes as well as the airline’s first two international destinations.

Avelo Airlines is launching 18 new routes and adding three new destinations in its largest ever route expansion.

Avelo is adding Montego Bay, Jamaica (MBJ) and Cancun, Mexico (CUN) as the first two international destinations as well as a new destination, and base, at Connecticut’s Bradley International Airport (BDL). The airline will base two Boeing 737’s at Bradley.

Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy said this about the route expansion:

“The expansion we are announcing today is the most substantial in our airline’s three-year history. Avelo’s purpose is to Inspire Travel and the addition of 18 new routes and our first two international destinations will make getting where our Customers want to go easier than ever. Couple this with our industry-leading reliability and it’s no surprise over five million people have chosen to fly Avelo.”

The 18 new routes are concentrated around four Avelo destinations, three of which are bases for the airline. The fourth, Charlotte, NC area Concord-Padgett Regional Airport (USA), is gaining enough service that I could see the airline identify this as a base in the future if demand is strong.

Avelo is increasing flights from three key bases and could add Concord Regional Airport as a base in the future.

With the new adds, Avelo will now serve 52 destinations across 23 states, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, and Mexico. Flights are currently on sale, with introductory one-way fares as low as $52. These flights are currently on sale at AveloAir.com.

Summary

Avelo Airlines has announced the largest route expansion in the company’s short history. These new routes are concentrated along the east coast, somewhere that the airline has increasingly focused on, and include its first two international destinations in Montego Bay (MBJ) and Cancun (CUN).

Are there any new routes you’re planning to take?

  1. You know I am given that one of these big expansion points is two miles from my front door! (as you alluded to above) I’m going to take the inaugural from Lakeland to Concord as actually I need to return from Orlando that day and will just drive down to LAL (with Avis, no charge to change my drop off to there). Taking the first one to Wilmington, DE with family as have extended family in Delaware.

Interesting that Avelo is opening Hartford. Having gone between New Haven and Hartford a couple of times recently, it isn’t exactly a fun journey. I am sure the markets are different enough they won’t steal from one another. Hartford Airport has a place of shame in my book… McDonalds 2 cheeseburgers small combo: $22.50. (was $9 in Denver Airport)

    1. I hope you picked up on that!

Avelo, Breeze, and a ton of other ULCCs are on my list to fly. They seem concentrated on the coasts and have no interest in flying to Austin. Glad to hear you found a couple routes you want to take and I can’t wait to follow along on the adventure.

The McDonalds pricing doesn’t surprise me because the most expensive McDonalds in the country is there in Darien, CT.
